  • Wtf is wrong with people

Not trying to bait for the temp forum, but as far as I'm concerned they should be locked up for the rest of their life with hard labor. This is just f'ed up.

A little too little info. Not that I think she had a valid reason for doing what she did (and not that I think there ARE very many valid reasons for murder), still, nothing is known about the backgrounds and potential motives.

A sad story. Reading between the lines (always a dangerous thing to do), it sounded like the g'parents were possibly being stricter than the modern norm and the girl rebelled, as teenagers of that age are wont to do, and escalation set in. However, where were the parents in all this?

However, I think that locking them up for life with hard labour will achieve nothing. I've always been at a loss as to what to do with kids and serious crime. Maybe a couple of years in boot camp, followed by a trip sponsored by a tough unit in the US Army in Iraq or Afghanistan for another couple of years will instill some discipline and a purpose in life, probably currently lacking.

        Its been updated this morning.

"Our investigation indicated they were doing this for freedom and so they could be together," said Fayette County Sheriff Randall Johnson.

Police apprehended the teens at a Tybee Island beach house, Johnson said. They will be returned to the county Wednesday and will be charged, as adults, with murder.

"They had hooked up with some local boys they had met on the beach last night who had given them shelter," said Lt. Col. Bruce Jordan, chief investigator for Fayette County. "They had no clue they (the girls) were involved in a homicide."

The Colliers were stabbed repeatedly with a large knife Monday night, sheriff's Sgt. Belinda McCastle said.
Sounds like 1st degree premedidated murder to me.

Doesn't really matter. That's part of the problem with this world today. We don't make people take responsibility for their actions we try to blame it on something else. They were involved in a murder, which is wrong and everyone knows that, and unless it is determined that this occured during an act of self-defense, which IMO is the only justification for possibably taking anothers life, then they should pay.

*nod* Joel... thats my point. I'd tend to think stabbing an elderly person repeatedly to death wouldn't be selfe defense, but we'll see what the circumstances were.

I understand they aren't guilty yet, however I think our justice system is flawed because even with rock solid evidance they would get a long trail with multiple appeals (costing the taxpayers loads of money).

I was for capital punishment on the basis of saving the cost of incarcerating someone for the rest of their natural life under I learned that the legal costs required to prosecute a capital case are generally higher than the cost to keep someone in jail until they die.

i don't know much about the legal process, but why not have the defendant pay for legal costs and the bullet.

                          Sad, isn't it?

I'd prefer a system similar to that in Starship Troopers (the book, not the crap-tastic movie). There are two levels of punishment: Whipping or death. Also, trials are very fast. Once you get your public humiliation (whipping) out of the way, people treat you with the same respect you had before the problem occurred (you're "rehabilitated"). Or, you get put to death for really nasty stuff (murder, rape, etc)

So simple. (if we could actually be sure that the "proof" actually proves anything)
