Yes, my next clue was going to be think of a Cretan painter!
The hotel at the bottom is a parador. These are owned by the Spanish Government and are converted castles, historical houses etc. This is the view from it showing the ancient city of Toledo with its citadel and cathedral which houses some enormous canvases of El Greco. The river is the Tajo, which becomes the Tagus in Portugal.
