Laura Branigan dead

at the all-to-young age of 50. She died in her sleep of a ruptured brain aneurysm on Thursday, Aug. 26th.



Laura Branigan is best known for her hits "Gloria", "Solitaire", "How Am I Supposed To Live Without You", "Self Control" and from the Flashdance soundtrack: "Imagination".

Branigan appeared on the NYC stage in 2002 portraying Janis Joplin in the musical "Love, Janis"

What a pity.

At least it wasn't a drawn out and painful death, like Warren Zevon's. Some of us just have hidden time bombs waiting to go off somewhere inside us. This reminds me of John Ritter's sudden death.

IIRC about 5% of people have cerebral aneurysms, though the vast majority of these people will never have one actually cause problems.

Of those who have one bleed about 40% will die either immediately or within a few days. Of the remaining 60% only half (30% of the total) will ever return to normal activities.

A very good reason to avoid things that can give you high blood pressure, which is what can turn an otherwise asymptomatic aneurysm into a major problem faster than you'd think. Also a very good reason for those with high blood pressure to get it under control and keep that way.

In other words: get your BP checked regularly, and if your physician tells you to get your act together....DO IT.
