  • What's your thoughts on the Olympic Closeing ceremony?

Basically if you were Greek, then the answer would've been "Awesome"

I'm married to one and she really liked it, I thought it was great too if you think of it as an Olympic Greek Concert

The Chinese bit was awesome as well.

    Chers,

I watched most of it on CBC. (an hour or two) The performane arts (first half) part was awesome. However, I couldn't understand greek, so i'd say the singing part was too long (became a concert for me). But then most of the people in the stadium were local people, so i'd think its supposed to be a really great show. Since people around the world are all watching it, i think it would be better if they shorten the concert part a bit. But i bet being there in person would be real fun...

And yes, toward the end I thought of it as a Greek concert. Kinda lost the meaning of the closing ceremoney, at least for me. But overall, i think the Greeks have outdone themselves this time! I Its one of the best games I have ever seen. I kinda felt sorry for the govrenment after watching all those fireworks tho, because I bet it costed them a lot, and I wonder if they will be able to balance this money or not...

Congrats to all the greeks on a job well done

    Onto 2008....

And I can't wait for the Beijing 2008 games. I think it will be awesome. It'd be great if they can tell the Chinese history like what the greek did with the opening ceremony. I watched the chinese part in this closing too. The vid clip was good imo, performance arts was alright (my least favourite was the chinese opera, maybe its because I have seen it too much in my life lol) If they can put in some ancient Qin chinese music i'd be awesome.

i've heard this type of ancient instrument a few times, and its sound is very pure, beautiful and "graceful"....

I agree with you Chrono, I too thing the Greeks outdid themsleves, and I am wondering myself if they have balanced financially as well, I guess we'll see, I have connections and will report in a few months

I'm pretty sure Bejing will be amazing! China has a great history amd truly love the culture.

There was a lot of concern that the facilities would not be ready in time.

I haven't been following the games too closely but I didn't see any headlines that said things weren't complete.

I'm glad that the Greek people were saved any embarrassment.

          Huh, already ended ?
Shows how much I've watched, beside women gymnastics (we rule !!! ) and some athletics, I kind of missed the whole thing.

Women Gymnastics was absolutely awesome! (though russia really did better than you, it was almost inhuman!)

At about 23.15 local time, I thought I'd catch the end. Strangely, I cannot see the local channels (I'm in the shadow of a large hill), so I couldn't get it on a Greek channel, so I started zapping round the satellite. Neither BBC channel nor Euronews was showing anything. I tried Télévision Suisse Romande 2, which had it, but the sound was obscured by commentators with nothing to say but saying it, all the same. I then tried the German Swiss channel 2. No commentary, but the sound was just the ambient noise and we couldn't hear the music. I then tried Italian Swiss Channel 2 and it came through perfectly and I enjoyed the singing of about 4 or 5 Greek songs by that disparate group marching up and down 100 m of walkway and struggling to step up on the platform In particular, the lady in black lead singer was excellent with good enunciation that I was able to understand quite a bit of what she was singing about. (My Greek is somewhat limited!! )

Those 15 minutes were excellent entertainment.

It's getting to be old hat by now.. same speeches with different cities.. same old stuff with children representing hope or somesuch, with a lot of sappy stuff about brotherhood and world peace, then the ode to joy, then athletes milling around or dancing.. the fireworks were cool though, and the girl blowing out the flame was charming. (I thought this torch was ugly as hell.. looked like a gigantic lit cigarette, and the way it tilted down was kinda strange. Oh, well.)

It's been on rerun here so I tried to watch part of it since its received such great reviews in this thread but I have to say that I couldn't watch more than a few moments because the audio was really bad. I could barely hear the singers.

                    Olympics where on?

Oh well I think I saw about 5 minutes of it on TV...doesn't do anything for me
Why is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?

We need to have a thread devoted to times for Women's Beach Vollyball telecasts so we can concentrate better.
