      More seriously, I believe that its original purpose is to dry off the substrate before laying a new asphalt or tarmacadam mix, to ensure maximal adhesion.

          Fat Tone:

          My garage/shop is 28 feet long so an 8 foot flame is reallly no problem as long as I don't hit a rafter with it....

          Kruzin and Brian pretty much had it. Around here it's usually sold as a "Flame Weeder", but it's more flexible than that. It's major uses are;

          1. weed removal & sterilzation of planting beds

          2. removing paint from non-flammable surfaces

          3. softening asphalt for removal or patching

          4. heating driveway/sidewalk expansion joints before applying sealer

          #1 is the current favorite in my area since it can remove weeds or sterilize planting beds without chemicals or much physical effort. Because of its chemical free nature sales for this purpose are going through the roof.

          Of course it requires a fire extinguisher, gloves and a face shield be used if you're smart. I'm trollying the tank around in Eriks little red wagon

          Cost: $18 USD for the torch & hose + $38 for the filled tank. Refills are about $13 USD.

          Versions with piezo-electric igniters run about $25-35 USD, depending on how fancy they are.

          I had it out this morning to burn some weeds growing up through our driveway expansion joints & prepping them for re-sealing.

          You should have seen the faces of the neighbors and local kids when I hit that blast trigger. Priceless

              I have a similar large torch hooked up to a 100lb tank and use it just for lighting charcoal

                      See....it can light charcoal;

                      One half-pound steakburger with sharp cheddar, Vidalia onion (sweet variety), stone-ground horseradish mustard and home-made catsup.

                      Yummy

                          Yeah and when you use it for that you don't have to wait around, waiting for the coals to be ready

                            blah...but the most important and fun part of grilling is setting it on fire...(in conventional way)

                              Hey, does it have any noticable recoil/thrust when it's going full blast?
