  • Chip and Pin

Just got my new debit card and just wondered how many shops have really trained the cashiers in this.

The number of cashiers who thought my old card was a chip and pin card was around 100%.

Alos theres even less space on the new card to type in you sig

Yes, but haven't you also got the news that the VISA card will be replaced by a new one with a chip ?

In Reading I have only used my pin number in two shops, the cashiers appeared to know what they were doing.

We've had this here for ages. Funny thing is, in France, I must sign for purchases on my pin card (as with a credit card), not input a pin number. WOuld not be surprised if we were actually the first in the wordl to get this.

We now also have the option to pay without sign nor pin-code. The balance is on the chip with a max of euro 500. You need to charge this once in a while with a PIN, but otherwise it is used as if cash money in a wallet.

Bet that's useful for the trains nowadays... I'm getting fed up with coming off the plane and having to pay the blimming supplement on a train ticket to Den Haag just because I only have euro notes and my card isn't read in the ticket machines so I have to go to the counter. All expensed, but still blimming annoying.

actually, Umf, we could very well have been the first to get chip&pin, though a lot of shops still don't have a 'chip' machine, or don't have it enabled... we weren't the first pin country though... i think.

but it does all make life a hell of a lot easier... except for those stupid shops that don't have a chip machine.

Yeah, we had this here for a few years, but no one liked it, so we don't anymore.

This chip and pin stuff.. is the pin the same as the one you use the ATM with? It is this way on my EC card.

The varioant we had in sweden was named "Cash" and the big downfall of it was that you couldent "remove" money from the card

Once loaded onto the card it was stuck untill you bought something for it
