Great film.. see it. It's very stylishly done, much like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon in many ways. Some utterly jaw-dropping battle scenes (fletchers must have been the major industry back then.) Jet Li is the star and he does alright, but Maggie Cheung and Tony Leung are the best acting-wise. Zhang Ziyi is in it too, and it really is hard to take one's eyes off her face to read the subtitles.

I enjoyed it, but I did think some of the scenes were much too "artsy" for me. It was like the director was only thinking about "how cool a shot this is going to be", but thankfully this didn't happen *too* often. Very good movie. I still prefer CTHD, but I enjoyed Hero. Zhang Ziyi is nothing compared to Maggie Cheung for beauty, and that says something since Ziyi is so damn cute. I couldn't take my eyes off of Flying Snows luscious red lips.

actually, i thought that the film tried to come up with some humanity to the normally (inhuman or stupid or tyrannical) portrayal of the Emperor. He was the guy who built the great wall of china and destroyed all other forms of the written chinese language and made only mandarin official (unlike the indian languages )

But this movie is quite good even though its a bit "artsy" and my favourite character was played by Tony Leung, esp his last scene.
In the end, i guess every man just wants to come to his home.

Zhang Yimou, the director, is one of China's finest. Him and the choreographer know how to make things look beautiful. Color is really important to them as you guys probably have noticed. His history with the Chinese government and his earlier works kind of make the ending in this film odd.

Maggie Cheung and Tony Leung were in "In the Mood For Love" weren't they? Love that film - cinematically one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. Fantastic score as well.

I've always thought one thing that i would like to conquer in my life is to take pictures on the set of a movie. and i'm so upset that this movie has came and went.

i would have paid money to have been the set photographer.

Hero is really a great movie

Chinese Ghost Story and Crouching Tiger were too slapsticky for me.

                          I too enjoyed it.

Have you ever seen that many arrows outside of documentaries on the battles of Agincourt and Crecy?
