odd.. I guess it doesn't happen too often... but I guess you have to put the living ahead of the dead.... Natalie took it well though.

Still a testimony to the workings of the bureaucratic mind.

Any moron would have dropped off the body with the pertinent information and gone to the next emergency, returning later to fill out the rest of the papework. I've seen squads do that on too many occaisions to count.

The way they did it was stupid, insensitive and disrespectul....not to mention taking longer in the end anyhow.

I understand the idea of prioritizing patients (especially dealing with emergency situations and limited medical facilities), but... uh... thats a bit ****ed up... especially since they might have been able to do more for him at the hospital... EMT's are not the end all of medical care...

I wish the story was a bit less vague on details, it would be nice to know some more specifics...

She wants an apology from the fire department, but does not want anybody to get fired.
I would.. screw him! Any dumbass who would make that decision doesn't need to be in a position to make decisions. An apology would just be insincere and meaningless anyhow, especially after they tried to justify their callous actions.

the guy was deaddddddd. im sure they called it in. and if they told her that they took him back to the house than why would she have went back to see him. i would have stayed at the hospital or went for a walk and waited til they went to pick him up again. i think if the role was reversed and someone told you that you couldnt get the ambulance you need and you might die because the current ambulance is transporting a dead body to the hospital youd be pretty ****ed off at the situation,.

think about the bigger picture here.

she wouldnt think of her living room in that way if she wouldnt have went straight back to her house.

Since we are giving our opinions on this story...

I agree with Liz. I think they chose the right decision but made a few mistakes. For one, they should have contacted the daughter immediately, or atleast told her what was going on at the hospital. And two, they needed to get there story straight so when she did arrive at the hospital, someone could have explained to her what was going on.

                  KvH.

It was a difficult choice, but IMO they made the right one, but they handled it badly.

As Doc said, though.. why take him back to the house? Better to take him to the hospital and leave him and then go back for the other emergency. I can understand the situation if they went 2 blocks and he died, the new emergency was life threatening, and very close by, while the hospital was 4 or 5 miles away, but they did handle it badly.
