Is this the same Christianity as is professed by born-agains? If so, there may be hope yet!

Central Florida ... there is no great hive of nutjobs and wacko's in the galaxy, we should be cautious.

I remeber the first time I drove through Central FL. There are crosses with all sorts of religious messages hanging down from the trees over the highway. I think I saw more churches than resturaunts in some places.

As far as this Christian is concerned the center of US religious wackiness is in Tennessee and its neighboring states. This is where the Pentacostal snake-handlers (Church of God with Signs Following) reside.

These people handle venomous snakes (rattlesnakes, cottonmouths, copperheads and sometimes cobras) during their services....bare handed and with no safety precautions.

During these services they talk to, sing to and dance with the serpents, often holding them right up to their faces.

There are about 50-100 such congregations, but even so both bites and fatalities are much scarcer than you'd expect.

These people don't connect with the born-agains at all since they are pretty much a local folk religion. Born agains also don't relate much to that moron who crawled into the lion cage. He's just mentally deranged.

"Born again" just means that someone has re-discovered their faith and put themselves into Gods hands. They can be of any number of Christian denominations; a few left, a few right and by far the most in the middle.

You didn't read too closely.. they said the TAIPEI zoo.. this guy is in Taiwan, not Florida.

I think he was trying to commit suicide, not trying to convert the lions. Idiot needs Jesus to save him if he deliberately tries to antagonize a bunch of lions that have never seen him before. Since the male attacked him, he probably saw him as a threat to the pride.

I suggest that the person was just wasn't showing enough faith, he needs to jump off a tall bridge or building while preaching. Hey, we're missing an "evil" smilely!

So did this fool somehow get the impression that the lions were Muslims?

Now I resent that. I know we have our fair share of nut cases but no more so than can be found in other places.

The online research I did says that the snake-handlers northern range stops somewhere around Columbus, Ohio.

This, of course, is no suprise to us U of M fans

Well there in lies part of the problem. Plus what can you say about those 'Damn Yankees'?

But I would have thought that we would have at least earned a little respect from you seeing as that TN was one of the first states to be declared a victory for Bush. Plus too for the first time since the Civil War we now have a Republican controled legistrator. I would have though that you would now see us as not being as wacked out as some may think.
