My wife just came back from a conference in San Antonio. She said that the research toward AIDS vaccine has hit a wall and there is no immediate way to approach it. Something new has to be thought up, identified, and started. The current research is dead or stagnant.
Merck has recently given up their $10B a year research into AIDS vaccine and sold off their associated laboratories.
