That's what I hated about the Indianapolis weather - very little snow and alot of freezing rain.

It is actually warm here... A few days ago it was freezing (no snow, but slippery roads ), but now it is really too hot for the time of year.
I'm just not getting that Christmas-like feeling (cold, snow(y), ...) this year...

18 - 19°C here today, so the chances of a White Christmas appear fairly remote
Don't want one, either.
Actually, we had a few very wet sleety snowflakes 10 days ago, very exceptional for December. We usually get a little sleet late January, but I've never seen snow settle here (I live at 300 m altitude). OTOH, there is usually good skiing at Troodos/Mt. Olympus for 2-3 months, but I avoid that!
Saw enough snow when I lived in Switzerland for 35 yearsBrian (the devil incarnate)

Well tomorrow it should be around 1 C for the high. Some snow with this cold would be nice, but no, with luck we'll probably just get a nice freak ice storm.
The last time that happend we lost power for a week and half the stately trees in our neighborhood got horribly dammaged
Chuck
PS Statisticaly we have a white Christmas every 25 years, but I think it may have been even longer that that here in OKCChuck

Sometime in the 6 years I've been here we've had a white Christmas, just can't recall when.“And, remember: there's no 'I' in 'irony'†~ Merlin Mann

Seems I remember OK City getting hit by a super-tornado a few years ago (actually 4-5 vortexes inside a main vortex w/319 mph winds ), so don't get too uppity about your luck
Not to mention that there were tornado warnings in Louisana just a day or two ago. Speaking of which; a number of years ago we had a winter tornado in Michigan during a thunder-snow storm.
Weird thing is that during thunder-snow stroms the polarity of lighting actually reverses and is many times more powerful....often strong enough to cause upward "sprites" or "jets" that can bring down airliners flying above the clouds.

I had quite an adventure getting to work this morning. Highway 410 was a sheet of ice. I spent about 40 minutes going 10km, all the while doing an obstacle course around wrecked cars, firetrucks, towtrucks, etc. There wasn't much traffic, with everyone taking christmas eve off work, but there were at least 7 separate accidents involving over 15 vehicles. Very surreal.Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. Bastard coated bastards with bastard filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive, bubble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine. -- Dr. Perry Cox

Ah see, I was just referring to Stillwater specifically. Chuck gets all the bad weather down his way
It misses by seven miles.
In fact, it was headed straight for our house and the weatherman said: "if this thing turns east it is realy going to gain energy" and, swear to God, right then that big sucker turned east and got huge .
Imagine a lawn mower 200 yards wide.
That's what the damage path looked like.
Chuck.
PS Actualy it's going to be pretty nice tomorrow despite starting out really cold.
We may fire up the chiminea and have a glass of wine about 4 pm.Chuck

Many years ago (~30) a friend of mine and I were driving from San Antonio TX to Houston TX and saw a monster and rapidly rotating supercell ahead and south of us.
Example of a much smaller supercell;
Being experiences midwesterners we realized it was time to take cover and pulled under a major overpass. We then crawled up into the hill/framework junction to shield ourselves in case something bad came our way. Shortly after the supercell dropped a HUGE tornado.
Fortunately for us it crossed the freeway a ways down the road from us, but the damned funnel was almost a mile wide (HAD to be an F4/F5) and even at this long distance it looked HUGE.
After it passed we and the others who also took shelter there continued on only to find that both sides of the freeway pavment had been ripped out of the ground, leaving nothing but gravel roadbed for at least 1/3 mile.
Needless to say getting to Houston took a bit longer than expected

We had 4,000 homes turned to sticks and 40+ killed by that one funnel.
Trip delayed by a change of shorts eh?
Chuck
PS Bright sunny and very nice out side.
We will break the forcast high by quite a ways.
No snow at all...Last edited by cjolley; 25 December 2004, 16:56.Chuck
