Effect of exposure to large g-forces during take-off and landing, mental and physical effects on the health of the female astronaut, mental and physical effects on the health of fellow male astronauts, suit design, implications for live broadcasts from space, novel experiments, insights it may provide bra manufacturers, insights it may provide fellow male astronauts, choice of female astronauts.

I'm not much in favor of bras anyhow, but then that's coming from an old pervert who enjoys the view of his wife's firm 42D's

caution should be shown in the fact that "fakes" may not like the low pressure environment that the shuttle/MIR operate in..."houston, we had a blowout"
Better to let one think you are a fool, than speak and prove it

This scenario was tested on Mythbusters in a vacuum tank and the falsies did not blow. They didn't even expand measurably.

Someone's been reading Rendezvous With Rama, I suppose

Anyway, I think this should be decided on a per-case basis. I volunteer to do the hands-on testing, a thorough optical scan, and I'll even feel for knots (yes, I am that concerned with the female astronauts' health!)

Depending on the size of the pertinent body parts a bra may be essential just from simple inerta issues.

Firmer breasts should not require a bra, especially with the lack of gravity they will conform to a lovely perky shape. However, those with big dangling and floppy boobs should still be required to wear a bra in space due to inertia issues and the risk of them 'floating' out too far and bumping into things like buttons and switches, or nailing someone else in the face during an abrupt turn. Although some may enjoy that

personally, any motion imparted has a more pleasing visual stimulus.

I think lactating women would make for handy space-savvy food dispensing units. Much nicer than strained carrots from a vacu-sealed plastic bag.
