  • "Bio-Suit" space suit....

    * skin tight
    * highly flexible
    * no need for internal pressurization
    * to incorporate wearble hardware and artificial muscle technologies

    Wow....this tech could also have applications on Earth.

    I recall seeing news footage of something like this being tested back in the sixties. A skin-tight coverall which would reinforce the skin's own natural "space suit" characteristics. IIRC they were deemed impractical because they were difficult to get into, difficult to move around in, presented problems with waste management, and were generally uncomfortable to wear.

      After reading through the PDF it looks like the inner pressure suit can be painted or sprayed on under the functional bits.

        Hmm... I don't know if I want to wear that kind of suit after seeing this illustration in the Space.com article.

          "Rotting Hand Syndrome!?"
          The whole idea just got a lot less apealing to me.

            I still like the idea of a bit radiation blocking material between between me and the general background levels of radiation & particles, not to mention puncture proofing. Even if the real level protection you get is still pretty token.

              Just don't apply it to the important bits.
