  • Which countries have you visited so far?

Includes any kind of stop except for airport-only layovers.

Here's what I've got so far:

USA: stayed in NYC for 2.5 years as a kid, visited some of the East Coast, including Canada if you count the Canadian side of the Niagara Falls

Thailand: first came here in 94, been living here for the past 2.5 years while getting my uni degree

Japan (Osaka, Hiroshima & Yakushima Island): great trip, quite a different experience compared to anywhere else...it felt like a glimpse into the future of Asia.

Czech Republic: Prague had a great feel to it, I've never seen a place with such a high percentage of beautiful people

Austria: Vienna is full of old-style aristocratic charm, combined with plenty of teenage punks for good measure.

France: Paris is great if you catch it in good weather...strong wind and overcast skies made for a bleak experience the first time I was there.

Belgium (Brussels and Gent): "Gay" would be my main comment on Brussels...seriously, it's a bit much, with all those specialized bars, stores and even bookshops, you feel weird being heterosexual in this city Gent was very beautiful, especially since it's not marketed much as a tourist trap.

Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur & Kota Kinabalu): A bit on the dull side, but they have some notable achievements in terms of infrastructure, I guess what impressed me the most was that it was such smooth going throughout my trip there

Singapore: Let's just say I'd prefer Japan's perverse glimpse of the future than Sin City's squeaky-cleanness

Hong Kong: a bit difficult to have a clear opinion about it...again, impressively modern but I wouldn't want to live there...it tends to alienate people.

Macau: the only other place in Asia I'd love to live in...the whole city feels incredibly European, yet is inhabited almost exclusively by Chinese...strolling thru it is a great experience

Added to this is of course Romania, the beautiful and yet ****ed-up country of most of my life.

Well, I did have to change one passport after less than 5 years because there was no more room for visas. Those countries like China and India that take up a whole page for each short visit are a PITA. Then, I had one passport with 3 pages taken up by the USA because they decided I had to have both a business AND a government visa and then they blew one of them (wrong dates) and had to cancel it "without prejudice". Of course, much of my travelling was because of the work I was doing for the UNEP and the Swiss Government -- happily, that has now finished, since 1 Jan 2005 (I still do some small consultancies for them that do not involve travelling).

Oops, sorry, I forgot Texas was a separate country, I counted it in the 25 contiguous states
