I see these have disappeared since the last version was implemented. I'm not seeking to restore them, but am curious about the reason. Did you roll in too much money in the few days they were up?

I thought that, as an experiment, I would give it a bash on www.cypenv.org and was surprised to find that, in the first week, the revenues were sufficient to pay for a month's hosting, with the smallest single text-only ad and this on a specialist site that attracts only a few visitors per day.

It's due to the upgrade. They'll return from what I've read.

Thx Brian, I'll tell my wife to put them on her website as well and quit work.

Sounds like someone is in a crabby mood today...

Yes, as High_Jumbllama, it is because of the upgrades.

Someone will ask...might as well be me: What kind of website does your wife have that generates so many hits she could stop work?

              ok here is the deal.
they will more then likely return.
but I am also looking at a few extra options...

This version of vb allows me to do subscriptions - all nicely managed btw - So I am also looking at the concept of incentives to donate... Things like, larger PM box, maybe extra smilies, maybe installing a murc gallery with space limits and extending for donating members - extra thread title icons, maybe the ability to choose a custom title etc.

Just to make this clear, I have no plans to reduce you abilities, just offer some extra things to members that help keep the server alive.

Well, I know there's a guy who sells a book for 79 bucks telling you how to get maximum clicks on them. He claims to receive monthly cheques from Google for $15k. The interesting thing is that the web page advertising this book does not carry an Adsense ad!
                  See http://www.adsense-secrets.com/google3.html

Well, at 500 bucks a day, Umf's wife can certainly keep him in a modicum of luxury

..., ability to store more avatars , broader choice of skins , option to ignore specified peoples posts (like an ignore list) , offering mail aliases (not full acounts), more settings regarding notifications ..., ability to edit other peoples post (imagine! ), ....

Ok, that last one is just for laughs, but there are plenty of possible advantages that could be presented.

bought the book, it does help and there are some good tips in it.
but ads alone won't pay for murc... so while some of you are more then happy to donate, I figure, I might as well offer some extra's for those that do.

BTW, Fat Tone, I was not clear, I am sorry. It is _I_ who's gonna quit work. What where you thinking?

Sorry, I thought it sounded sarcastic...

Perhaps it was the lack of smilies

These kind of posts just are so much better without smilies, don't you think?
