No, it doesn't. Teachers average $44,367.

The US govt. figures the average salary for a line police officer at $43,858 and $36,468 for a firefighter.

As far as the salary of a school administrator in Michigan and other major states go, it's worse than I thought. This is from a 2004 article in the Detroit News, our largest daily newspaper;

Michigan superintendent salaries went up 26 percent in five years, according to data from the Michigan Association of School Boards. In 1998, superintendents at schools with more than 10,000 students averaged a salary of $111,000. In 2003, it was $140,000.

The larger the district, the more money leaders tend to make. In Detroit, for example, Chief Executive Officer Kenneth Burnley makes $244,000 to oversee the 148,000-student school district.

Nationwide, some districts are paying exorbitant salaries to lure top leaders.

The new Miami-Dade County school superintendent will make close to $480,000 in salary, bonuses and benefits in his first year, according to the Miami Herald.

Just for the record the salary of the President of the United States is $250,000 a year.

I started out teaching here in Oklahoma in 1982 at $11,400 with no health insurance.
Even though I loved it, I couldn't stay in it at that rate.
Maybe I should have gone into managment.
Of course, then you don't actually contribute to anyone's education, but what the heck.

Thx Dr. M. That puts it into perspective. I don;t see what would be wrong with that though, those are farking big schools (which is bad IMO but a different story) and need good management, which costs. My CEO would fark up good doing the work I do, but that does not mean he should not make a large multiple of what I make.

Which is not to say that management may not be bad. My kids go to an elementary school (I think) with about 420 kids. The principle can't teach, he can't manage either. In short, he sucks in every which way possible and I guess makes a good bit more than the teachers, most of them pretty good. But in principle, I don't c what's wrong with it.

And in the UK, a house officer (a doctor of one of the more junior grades in a hospital) will start on £16 145 ($25 830). A newly qualified lawyer or similar parasite can start at £39-51k, more than double a doctor. Even a newly qualified employed plumber can touch £25k or more while many jobbing plumbers often exceed £100k.

In any case, those numbers will probably be City numbers, and not all will be able to get a job there.

To be a lawyer here:
1) Do an undergraduate degree (BA, MA, whatever) in any subject - 3 or 4 years
2) Do a law conversion course (LPC) - 1 year
3) Do your legal practice course (CPE) - 1 year
4) Be a trainee at a law firm - usually 4 seats of 6 months each so 2 years

Then you are qualified.

Alternatively if your step (1) above is a law degree, then you can skip step (2).
