This of course leaves the question of why you feel so crabby towards animals.
Yeah, ha ha. Don't get me wrong. I have had pets in the past and I loved them dearly. My oldest kid has a rabbit. When ill, I'll take it to the vet, but spending $1,000 on it just seems, I don't know, bizarre and twisted in some way.
Surely, anyone's wealth is for them to spend anyway they want to, but this just does not feel right.

I'm sorry KvH, but no amount of wealth makes one greedy. Greed knows not rich or poor, nor does it relegate itself to just attainment of monetary wealth. You can be greedy and not have ever tasted the spoils of wealth.
What of a millionaire who buys that 400ft yacht, but at the same time, routinely gives to charity? Is this person still guilty of greed by default, as they have obtained more wealth than they may be worth in your eyes?
Yes, we as a society place more value on certain professions over others that one would think would hold more worth. However, that is not greed.
Oh and KvH, remember, all sins are equal in the eyes of God. Just as the thought of adultery (lust) is a sin, so, I'm going to guess, would be the thought or murder. Greed is greed, whether it manifests itself in the pursuit of wealth or another item; though the pursuit of wealth alone does not preclude greed on the part of the pursuer.
So how much of your wealth do you give to those who are not as wealthy as you? As I said, someone will always appear wealthier than the someone with less.

I believe that the large number of people who shun value judgements, as you and Wombat have done (out of conditioning by this PC society, whether you acknowledge this or not) display a sad form of cowardice which exacerbates the very real problems we have in our society.
Put down the crack pipe. I haven't shunned value judgements, I just said that YOURS are BS. Somehow, because I'm not a Christian, I'm godless and amoral in your eyes, and have no sense of right and wrong. This makes you a moron who leaps to conclusions.
Evil people flourish when no one dares bring them to account. You are, in a way, elevating Darwinian laissez-faire capitalism to the level of an all-powerful god
I elevated capitalism to godlike status? Not me, bud. I voted Democratic. I'd rather we didn't plunder other countries, our own wildlife reserves, and I wish we strengthened social welfare programs.
It is true that being poor does not mean one cannot be greedy, but theirs is a crime in thought alone.
Isn't sin about what's in the heart, though? Or is their sin lesser because they are powerless to inflict their will on others? I would argue that the mindset is identical, but the means are lacking.

Oh hell yes you do. You just told me I'm basically working for evil.

I think I was responding to something JW mentioned there, but it was Slick Willy who dropped our drawers for China trade and signed NAFTA into law. Now we are basically screwed up the ass from two directions, the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer. But who needs a home and other real assets when we poor folk have lots of cheap plastic doodads to play with now?
The point is, ladies and gentleman, is that greed -- for lack of a better word -- is good.
Greed is right.
Greed works.
Greed clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit.
Greed, in all of its forms -- greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge -- has marked the upward surge of mankind.
And greed -- you mark my words -- will not only save Teldar Paper, but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA.

I'm the least you could do, oh yeah
If only life were as easy as you
I would still get screwed
