Oh come on, enterprise is by far the worst of the bunch, worse even than TOS which, face it, is just not very good; it's cult, it's a classic, yes. But if you leave that aside, is it good? No.
Jammrock: Please watch a few of the DS9 episodes of the last season (or last seasons? I don't think in seasons so I don't know). Very dark, lots of action and good effects, character development, backstory (even with high command being infiltrated etc.), mystery (I just love Garak.), continuing story arc, politics, backstabbing, personal tragedies (and for the first time some of the main characters shown are NOT perfect: Dr. Bashir...). Easily the best period of ST, hands down (though TNG had some very good episodes, but these series are very different. TNG relied almost exclusively on the characters and great acting of stewart foremost, with spiner and then the rest following; I liked how they tried to address moral/ethical/social dilemmas, I didn't like how the writers always chose the easy way out, like just let the person who created the dilemma die in an accident or something. I love Picard's character and how he influences the whole series.)

DS9 was good in more ways than one, let alone just as a Star Trek show. Case in point, my wife hates ST and she was addicted to DS9 when it went into reruns/syndication. While I felt that the show suffered from many of the same problems as TNG and the others, it definitely had a new feel to it. Not to mention that when the episodes were good, they were really good.
And yes, Garak was always a delight“And, remember: there's no 'I' in 'irony'†~ Merlin Mann

Star trek needs to die, go away and never come back. It is not scifi and never has been. It is more like a poorly written space opera. And for the life of me I will never understand how any true scifi fan can enjoy Star Trek.
Let it die and pray to the gods it never comes back!

Science Fiction is a very broad genre.
Obviously, technology-based SciFi concentrates of the future of technology and the applications there of. Story are simply wrapped around the technological ideas, concepts, and applications thereof. This is typically called 'hard-core' SciFi, and what the likes of Asimov, Niven, etc. write.
Society-based deals with life or other societal issues of the future. While they will almost always contain an element of futuristic technology, it is rarely very unique or new. Space operas, both Star Trek and Star Wars and the newer Firefly/Serenity fall into this category, are the most common in this genre.
There are a few authors who are good and bridging the gap between the two, and they are typically the best all-around SciFi. Phillip K. Dick and Heinlein are some of the best at this.
The reason why many people are getting so disallusioned with ST is simply because it's not really innovating, and most SciFi fans demand innovation. At least that's my opinion on the matter. ANd with that said ...
Star Trek must die.

@Zokes, You couldn't have the others without TOS. Besides, it's not like they're producing new episodes of TOS! For all intents and purposes, TOS is dead.
@Jammrock, Are you actually trying to say that all theTrekerslosers who walk around dressed as a Vulcan and know three dialects of Klingon aren't geeky enough? What planet are you from?P.S. You've been Spanked!

Jeesh ... don't all you "Star Trek must die" folks know how to change the channel on your TV? I don't sit here ringing the death toll for the many crap sci-fi shows I run across. Pick what you like and move on.
I'd love to see them resurrect "Lexx" some how ... without ruining the series. That was a gorgeous show ... lots of eye candy, amusing, and at times thought provoking.<TABLE BGCOLOR=Red><TR><TD><Font-weight="+1"><font COLOR=Black>The world just changed, Sep. 11, 2001</font></Font-weight></TR></TD></TABLE>
