Yep, that's my impression too when I see examples (thankfully not in real life...yet). They're so flat it's obviously unnatural - and ugly...as many other plastic surgeries.

And besides, aren't 9 year olds still groving enough that the end result could be terrible (well, but since it means another operation than the "doctors" don't mind - more money to them)

I used to be called "Dumbo"* by my family when I was young and sported a crew cut. I never cut my hair too short ... and I don't like having to go to get my hair every six weeks or less.

I've seen girls with ears like that who were actually quite cute. Remember this one little girl who looked a bit like an elf.
