Danica Patrick: 227.633 mph @ Indy

In case you haven't heard there is a very competitive female rookie driver in this years Indy 500; Danica Patrick, and she's not only FAST but also somewhat of a hottie.

Danica drives for the team of former multi-Indy champion Bobby Rahal. In her last start in Japan she came in 4th after qualifying 2nd. Not too shabby for the new girl in the 'hood.

It's likely this will be the fourth straight year the 500 is beaten in television ratings by NASCAR's Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte run just hours later.

But one driver could change that, especially if she wins the pole Saturday: Danica Patrick, 5 feet 2 inches and 100 pounds of pure racer from Roscoe, Ill.

Patrick, 23, would become the fourth woman to qualify for the 500, but she is the first serious female contender for the Indy pole, and the first with a car capable of winning the race.

She already has recorded the second-fastest lap since practice opened last Sunday, 227.633 mph.

For you metric types that practice lap comes out to 421.576 kph. As for the pole positon; that'll be decided tomorrow since todays practice was rained out.

She looks pretty, except maybe a minor quibble on the bottom of the nose. A lot of the Maxim hotness is make-up though. But that's true of most models.

The Maserati girl is very nice looking though.

Results of pole position day:

Tony Kanaan sits on the pole with a 4-lap average of 227.566 mph

Tony shouldn't feel that good though as Danica Patrick's morning practice speed was higher than anyones by no small margin.

Danica's morning practice: 229.880 mph

Danica's qualifying: 227.004 mph

which includes a 1st qualifying lap where her car got squirrely in a turn. The other 3 qualitying laps were VERY fast.

This puts Danica in the #4 qualifying position; meaning the inside of the 2nd row.

The Rahal-Letterman team decided not to let her try again (she could have gone 2 more times). They want to look at the car as it didn't look that stable in the other 3 laps even though she was blistering the track.

IMO the rear stabilizer wasn't set properly with way too little downforce for the speeds today.

Even so, the way she drove an obviously unstable car I can't wait to see what happens if she has a stable car during the race proper
