  • Blue Angels flying over my office right now

I work as a civilian contractor out at Fort Dix and I'm less then a mile or two from the landing strip out at MacGuire AFB, whos having a open house/airshow this weekend. I've been having the Blue Angels buzz the office for about the last 20 minutes or so...I'm assuming they just flew in or are tuning up for this weekend. The airshow opens tommorow for ID card holders, but I'm not going till Sunday, so I'll take a couple shots and post them here Sunday night or something

This is the first airshow they had out here in AGES and I can even remember the last one they had and they haven't had any since I've started working here almost 4 years ago...then again 9/11 and Iraq has put a damper on that. Should be fun and the weather is supposed to be great...80 and sunny sunday.
Why is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?

Heh - funny how 80 and sunny is nice, unless you're in Basic Training. It was especially nice to have the planes flying at night, when you're trying to sleep off the day's activities. (my barracks was on the side of Dix that's closest to MacGuire)

I thought the Blue Angels were disbanded after the big crash a few years ago. (maybe it's been more than a few years - time flies). I was lucky enough to see them once at Coney Island beach. They just showed up and did some tricks - way cool.

Looking forward to seeing the photos

I know what your saying about Basic Training...the place your at always has the worst weather when you go there...thats what happened to me at Fort Knox LOL.

Funny, I grew up thinking early morning fly-by's were normal. Happens when you live less than a mile from the runway

Loved going to the air shows when I was a kid, though I remember they became less of an event after the Gulf War/Desert Storm. Then again security is an issue when you live on the base where CENTCOM and SOCOM are located.

Need to see if I can find an open to the public air show around here to take the kids to.

Aren't you close to Tinker AFB? I haven't been in OK in years and quickly forgot about it since I hated it there (Ft. Still/Lawton isnt nicest area IMHO and my home "town" had the roughly the same popluation as it, not to mention all the other towns around it, so it was a bit of a culture shock to me )

I don't remember which road it was on - it was at the edge of the training barracks area, along the fence (and road) dividing the two bases.

What was even worse about the weather was that it was exceedingly hot for the entire time I was there (August and September), and the port-o-let cleaners were on strike.

            Now THAT really sucked.

Yeah, Tinker is just south of me in Oklahoma City. Not sure if they have open air shows or not. Father-in-law is also retired Air Force, so there's always the chance we can get in that way.
