Michelin: Could they or couldn't they make a tyre for Indy? Maybe or maybe not. The "other" Tyre manufacturer (not to mention Goodyear) have for years made tyres that work well at Indy. Go figure.

OK guys....this from the SPEED Channel's Formula One analyst Peter Windsor in an interview with Fox Sports;
Motorsports coverage includes news, highlights, rankings and more spanning NASCAR, Formula 1, NHRA, ARCA, MotoGP, IndyCar and more auto racing circuits.
I think this business about the Michelin tires being unsafe to race has been exaggerated by the teams and, indeed, by Michelin, because as far as I understand it, they were only considered to be unsafe, by Michelin, on one very specific corner.
And talking to a lot of the drivers, there were ways of getting around that corner, reducing the amount of load that was going through it — obviously we are talking about Turn 13, the vertical load. So, I think first of all, we need to be very careful about "the tires were unsafe." I think they were unsafe, but unsafe when used in a specific way. Beyond that, I am as shattered as anyone else. I love Formula One. I've been involved for 30 years and to see that happen on the warm-up lap, the formation lap, all those cars coming in like that, I think it was an absolute disgrace. To be honest, our obligation in this sport, or any sport is to the fans and for that to happen is just appalling.
------
Tell me where the difference is in what happened Sunday and what might happen at any Grand Prix where there is a sudden downpour and one tire company, on intermediate tires, with no grip at all, everybody spins off on the straight and there is only five cars left in the race. That's happened before and everyone thinks "Wow, what a great race." They should have been out there racing and if there are problems, you drive around the problems as best you can. Racers are racers.
------
F1 is about people getting out there and going motor racing. We race in the rain. We race in the wind. We race in the hail. We race in the hot weather. And we have tire failures and lots of other terrible things, but that's what Formula One is all about, for good and for bad.

Yeah, sure, the fans threw some crap on the track, but many of these fans travelled from overseas to be at this race. Lots of travel time, lots of $. To have this happen is an outrage.
Some friends of mine drove out from NJ to Indy (a LONG trip), stayed at an expensive hotel for this, etc etc, and got a lot of greif from their women for leaving during father's day weekend. And this is what they got out of it.

Maybe the Michelin teams should have started the race, but drive through the pitlane instead of Turn 13 / main straight, every single lap (to save their tyres). I know, it's silly, but they would have competed against other Michelin teams for the points (7th & 8th place). And something for the spectators...

Why go so far? Just do what every racer I know, including myself, has done for ages when they run into a troublesome portion of the track for their equipment: take a different line!!
Duhhh.....

Fans should not jeoperdize the safety of the race car drives period... I don't care if they came from the moon and paid a gazillion dollars to watch a Nascar or F1 race!!!!
That is simply childish & pathetic, if I was there and the guy in front of me did this, he would be in a world of hurt!

Yes. While I can understand and sympathize with how they feel throwing debris on the track is not the way to express it. Boycotting F1, all its promotional products and especially Michelin is the ticket.

What annoys me most are the idiots like Ron Dennis, Norbert Haug, Flavio Briatore, ... who claim "we are sorry for the fans" ... bullshit ...
There were many many ways they could have drived. They always had the option to change the left back tyre every ten rounds (Michelin said that it's safe to drive with the tyres for 15 rounds), they could have used the new tyres Michelin brought on Sunday (Charlie Whiting said that they can use them, but they had to pay the prescribed penalty).
But no, they had to start that farce ...

While it was stupid, it was nowhere near the most stupid thin KvH ever said. At least it was harmless.
