When Rhenquist goes, it'll be Thomas, Scalia, and the fascist five.. Maybe I should have said Bolshevik five.. what they did reminds me of the scene in Doctor Zhivago where the state has appropriated the Zhivago home for the "public good."

      I found this statement ironic..

Edward Kennedy, D-Massachusetts and a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said: "I hope the president will select someone who meets the high standards that [O'Connor] set and that can bring the nation together as she did. ...

"If the president abuses his power and nominates someone who threatens to roll back the rights and freedoms of the American people, then the American people will insist that we oppose that nominee and we intend to do so."

And who is doing the rolling back, you heir of McCarthy Mass hole? I'd like to see your Hyannisport home razed in favor of a hotel.. they could even make it a museum of Kennedy triumphs.. like Chappaquiddick.

        Earth to Chuck.
        O'Connor voted against the ruling.
        So one would expect that

Given that they nominated John Bolton for the UN.
My guess is that they will go with Theodore Olson as the nominee.

            Cynical blather..

It was the 5 liberals who voted to trash homes for tax revenue as a matter of policy. They forgot they were on the Supreme Court.. they set standards, not decide on individual merits. I was referring to Kennedy's McCarthyist tactics whenever a conservative is appointed.. I'll never forget how he and Biden behaved during the Bork hearings, and that was what turned me completely against that liberal cadre for life.

Well, actually they just booted the policy decision back to elected local government.

Come to think of it, I thought that was what people on the right wanted.

So, who do you think they will nominate?

PS It won't be Gonzales. As the former WHC and then AG he would have to recuse himself from too many cases.

PPS Cynical? How would a liberal in the US come to be cynical nowadays?

Who now have license to abuse their power at will. Knowing a lot of what goes on, I can guarantee that a lot of them will do just that..

Whoops! Look how they voted! The supposedly evil fascist rightwingers voted on the side of the little guy keeping his property rights.. maybe it's time to re-evaluate your loyalties?

                No clue. Probably someone obscure.

Dude, he's a liberal politician! did you not see him just refer to HIS will as "THE PEOPLE'S" will? It's an old trick.

As someone who works in local government, I know quite a bit about this.
                  You are way to late.
Check out "Tax Increment Financing District"
Thats where you take money from poor schools and give it to wealthy developers.

                    "He" who?
Kennedy. You know.. it's the same trick that those councilmen in bed with the rich developers play.. blind the people with "public good" and "people's will" crap just to get elected, and then sell themselves to the highest bidder.

For another instance, look at Fritz Hollings. How on Earth did a senator from SOUTH CAROLINA come to take such an interest in the fortunes of the Disney Corp.? Guess the people he's actually supposed to represent can't buy him the gold Rolexes he wants.

Bush does that all the time.
                      Is he a liberal too?

                        Worse.. a politician.

Seriously.. Kennedy still follows old machine-type tactics. It's scary that people buy into it.

                              This kicks ass..

                              Snippit from the article:
Justice Souter's vote in the "Kelo vs. City of New London" decision allows city governments to take land from one private owner and give it to another if the government will generate greater tax revenue or other economic benefits when the land is developed by the new owner.

On Monday June 27, Logan Darrow Clements, faxed a request to Chip Meany the code enforcement officer of the Towne of Weare, New Hampshire seeking to start the application process to build a hotel on 34 Cilley Hill Road. This is the present location of Mr. Souter's home.

Clements, CEO of Freestar Media, LLC, points out that the City of Weare will certainly gain greater tax revenue and economic benefits with a hotel on 34 Cilley Hill Road than allowing Mr. Souter to own the land.
