  • People are stupid.

Just an observation.. (yes.. I actually went and flipped through the channels on the TV tonight. Maybe again next month)

Ah.. and from work today. Some idiot comes in and thinks we are a repair shop.. wants to get his crap $50 cd player fixed which would require a laser realignment (a $125 job for a repair shop.) He was shocked to find we were a retail store and were NOT Wal-Mart. Showed him a good quality $149 Yamaha CD carousel with an actual 2 year warranty, but he couldn't wait to get outta there so he could buy some total garbage with a 90 day warranty and a 91 day lifespan at Wal-Mart.

People are such stupid, no class morons these days.. and so eager to suck the shit of some corporate suit in another state.. sigh.

at least in my company we are lucky. our customers are willing to spend the cash needed.
though we service businesses only, which makes a difference.

It's taken you that long too realise it????

I'll let you into a secret there's thousands of them. The worse thing is they get up in the morning and leave their house. Yet it's even worse some even run your country.

Ha! Believe it or not, something intelligent and worth watching on the TV tonight. Figures it's over 40 years old, though.. great movie.. Charade with Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn. No one has that kind of class nowadays.. figures, since so few people value it. That was a nice escape. Enjoyed it thoroughly.

Only thousands? Don't tell me you have become such an optimist on human nature?

Interesting comment I heard before presidential elections here from some actor/director (QUOTE):

              - I was listening to musical wishes show on radio today.
              - The thought of people who picked music picking my president on Sunday is dreadful.

Well I agree that People are morons for other reasons, but I find that your posting here is a bit pompous...first you chide someone for not buying something at the store that you work at and then attack him for buying something possibility cheaper at Walmart. Not everyone needs $10K home Stereo system, just like there are penalty of people out there that don't need $2500 dollar computers. So basically your coming across like a whiney bitch that lost a sale to walmart.

If you want the clientele from Walmart...match their prices. Otherwise shoot higher and bring in the higher class people that are willing to spend the $$$ on better equipment.
Why is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?

Actually he has a reasonable point. KvH is fond of going on about the class disparity, but let's not get into that. Those in the "lower classes", as well as a surprising number of those in the "upper classes", are particularly susceptible to logical failings. The concept of "you get what you pay for" has had decreasing acceptance in recent years. The problem is that people see that it isn't always true... then get surprised by cases in which it is.

People continue to buy American cars. Partly it's advertising, partly it's ignorance, partly it's... I don't know what. Nothing you could possibly do could compel me to spend MORE money on a Ford instead of a Toyota or Honda. But in this case, you DON'T get what you pay for. This is starting to right itself, as market demand has driven UP the price of the reliable imports and DOWN the price of the POS domestics.

But then you get to consumer electronics. I tried to explain to my friend that even though the Kenwood all-in-one surround-sound boxed set SEEMED attractive, that spending a FEW bucks more on an Onkyo tuner with the same specs, and a set of cheapie speakers with the same specs... was the smart thing. But she didn't listen. This is a girl with a Master's in Bioengineering. Not a dummy by any stretch of the imagination, just... susceptible to this disease.

Its not as much as it what you get to pay for but you can get something halfway decent then blowing a couple grand on something that might overkill for your needs.

People rather spend their money more "effectively" then say spending more $$$ on a name brand, just because its a brand name. Its far too complex to boil it down like you are. You can go out and blow $800 bucks on a Sony Reciever, but you be better off spending the same amount on a Martenz or Hardon-Karmon unit instead if your going to blow that much. If you only have $500 bucks, an all in one home theater is your best bet for your dollars.

I'm not going to get into your narrowminded views about the auto industry at this point either...becasue there are several flaws in your thinking...

The recent (10 years back and forward) trend on only competing on price and not on quality is now starting to affect the whole electronic market.

Last time I bought a new DVD player I wanted one in the 500$ range, the local stores had nothing above 149$ (that wasn’t also a DVD recorder wich I specifically didn’t want) and when I asked for something higher quality the store clerks almost blankly stared at me and said "but this one is great at this price" - ughhhhh!

I ended up ordering my new DVD player through my job and directly from the manufactor

It’s actually starting to get hard to find “Expensive” stuff in the general electronics stores and chains.

Nowdays almost everything is sold by price, the general idea is that just the fact that its incredible cheap makes it great
If there's artificial intelligence, there's bound to be some artificial stupidity.

Jeremy Clarkson "806 brake horsepower..and that on that limp wrist faerie liquid the Americans call petrol, if you run it on the more explosive jungle juice we have in Europe you'd be getting 850 brake horsepower..."

Gurm put it in perspective, but I will spell it out for you since you just refuse to think.. apparently you have the disease he refers to.. Let's see.. you are actually making the following points?

                            1) I think people should patronize local small businesses when it is to their advantage, so that makes me pompous?

                            2) Somehow, a person who drives up in a new suburban can't afford a $149.00 good quality CD changer instead of the $79.00 one that will break real quick (and he has that experience right at hand, too)?

                            3) Somehow, a $149.00 item has been randomly, fictionally, inflated in price by you to $10,000.00 and you think you have a point? Further, you accuse others of flawed thinking?

                            4) That we would sell the SAME item and not match Wal-Mart's price. Believe it or not, the items we (and just about every other locally owned business) sell which are identical to those at Wal-Mart are sold at the same price. Why the hell would we do otherwise? The problem is that almost every piece of electronics sold at that place is extremely cheesy in quality of performance and usually build quality as well. We don't sell that stuff. That doesn't mean we ONLY sell ridiculously priced $20,000 tube amps or whatever else you want to assume. We sell value and sell it at reasonable prices. This is my beef with people and the common mindset now.. and you are a typical example.. people are utterly closed-minded about value when it comes to electronics. The same person who might understand that a 600 thread count sheet should cost more than a 300 thread count sheet will not even LISTEN to you explain why a Yamaha Receiver is preferable to a Tatung or whatever crap they think they have to buy because it's at Wal-Mart and it's cheap. But you know, if Wal-Mart or such is the only place you shop, and you REFUSE to patronize anyplace else, I can see why you would not care much for electronics.

So I'm a whiny bitch, eh? You know how you come across? Well, when I was a little kid I remember asking why communism was a bad thing. We happened to be in a store and my mother told me this: "Well, do you see all the different choices there are here? In Russia they only have ONE choice. You have to buy the grey shirt because there's nothing else. You have to buy the expensive, junky car because that's all there is. If anyone there has a TV, it's very expensive and very poorly made." Now look at you. You are trying to arrive at this state of affairs by shouting down the free market system from the other side, making all sorts of negative assumptions about small businesses without an ounce of evidence to your credit other than that which is completely fabricated from the dim perceptions of the thoughtless masses. The way we are going, we will wind up exactly how my mother described communist Russia all those years ago. The ONLY place to shop will be Wal-Mart, and the ONLY goods will be cheesy, overpriced crap, and there will be no middle class anymore.. and all because of ill-considered attitudes such as yours. Make no mistake.. Wal Mart makes a lot of profit on that crap.. simply because it is made FOR them.. they are practically the manufacturer. They are simply concerned with making the most money on the cheesiest stuff possible, though.. not about quality or customer satisfaction. Just go ahead and ask a Wal-Mart employee how to operate the electronics you just bought there. I dare you. Yeah, you can return it within 30 days (as if you can't here just as well), but try getting it repaired or adjusted. How would you like it if someone so utterly denigrated your livlihood with utter stupidity? What do YOU do for a living, Scott? Let's see how useless we can make it.

KVH well seems like your biggest gripe is with Walmart and how evil it is. Walmart didnt open up their first store in New Jersey till about 15 years ago. Target didnt open their first store here till 1997 or so, well at least in my area. Only major player we had was Kmart or Sears or some now defunct stores that where like Target or Walmart. Also add in that the area I live in is mostly desently popluatued area on the face of the earth, Walmart hasnt had nearly the same impact it does out in the Mid-west. I agree Walmart sells cheap shit and you get what you pay for. I barely go there since the the one down the street from me is filthy POS and I rather go to the Target across the street. When i go shopping for Electronics I usally visit the local Best Buy/Circuit City or buy it online. I dont need to goto a speciatly Audio Electronics store, because they usally want to rip you off by marking up the stuff reduculiously.

With that being said....people are idiots, but if they only have a choice between you and walmart..your going to lose since people rather get the cheaper equipment and throw it away when its broke, like this guy did. Some times you get lucky, some times you dont!
Why is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?
