  • Not to be outdone by Gurm, heres MY project car

Just picked this up. 1990 mustang gt convertable 5.0litre with 90,000 km
Still haven't decided what to do with it as it really is in rough shape.
    my options are:

make it drivable and have fun with it for a while

strip it and save the drivetrain for transplant in my 1999 ranger (currently a 4.0 litre with 240,000 km) and trash the rest of the car.

strip the drivetrain, pop in my 425hp motor and HD tranny and use it for racing. This would of course require a proper roll cage installed.

currently it requires to following to make it road-worthy:
new floor pans - the previous owner obviously left the top down too many times in the rain.
new or refurbished steering rack - currently leaking

    new exhaust

new fuel lines (currently leaking ON the muffler)

    new brakes

    new interior (carpets, seats etc)

    and various others.

    Cool

I've been trying to pick up a cheap 5.0 fox body to replace the '69 Mach1 project I had to let go last year.

Meh. My project has been derailed by repeated drains on my project money by other "more important" things, like rent.

Currently it is clean(er), and runs, but still smells like weed.

Someone on Craigslist is selling a COMPLETE leather interior in excellent shape but I can't afford to buy it this month.

        @ Gurm - what's your project car?

@ GT - drop the drivetrain into the ranger.

My girlfriend LOVES mustangs, especially 94's, but she'd probably love that one too.

How's the body and chassis looking so far?

Ok quick update - might be selling the Bimmer (resale value = really good) and just outright buying a nice 940Turbo wagon in decent shape from the early 90's. Which would mean that THE HULK will be leaving never to return. I'll keep you all posted.

Oh, just search the Lounge for threads started by me about a month and a half ago.

@kooldino, that's the way it's looking now - Ive already done a conversion before and have the engine mounts, radiator, headers, and a few other odds and ends. There's a conversion kit available to be able to attach the mustang tranny right to the transfer case also

@Zokes, the body is caca, the underside is severly rusted - it would take a great deal of time and money to get it to the point where I'd be happy with it.

The more I look at it, the more problems I find, and the more likely the guts get pulled out of it and the rest goes to scrap! My 88 stang is still rust free and mechanically A1 with 250,000 km.

Might be best to drop the engine in a good chassis, no? Unless you like to strip cars and fix rust holes and stuff.

you can have the body of mine when I strip the powertrain off of it

Use it for spare parts. Anyways, the only good Mustangs are from the 60's or 70's

A 1964-1/2 Shelby to be specific

Dude! Post a pr0n warning before an image like that!

Always wanted a '69 Boss 429, but there's only half a dozen in this country and I can't justify spending £30+ K on a weekend showcar

It still smells like weed? WOW! The dudes who had it before you did must have smoked ONLY in that car, either that or there's still a lot of weed jammed in places you haven't checked yet.

@gt40: So your gonna drop the engine in the Ranger? Man I'd love to be able to do stuff like that, wish you lived closer that way I'd be able to help you out, I LOVE that kind of stuff, plus I love to learn about mechanics.

it really brings me to tears that you had to let your 70 Mach1 go, that must have hurt
