    NASA is spending $120 million on hardware that's supposed to aid its Shuttle/ISS functionality until 2015, which is 5 years after it's to be decommissioned



    Obviously someone in procurement hasn't been reading the papers

    Sure. Imagine the reaction when they find in 2012, when a alternative may not have been realised yet, that the Shuttle won't do anymore. It would not be the first time a decomissioning to be postponed nor the first time sich postponement runs into troubles because there is no alternative.

      no biggie, the push now is to recycle the external tanks/SRBs that are lined up but no mission scheduled to use. They'll take that unit and mount inside an external tank on top of a 5 segment SRB and launch that
      Better to let one think you are a fool, than speak and prove it
