I didn't buy an XBox. I probably won't buy an XBox 360. The XBox has, at this point, very few games that I really want to play... and the only ones that are still exclusive to the XBox are Halo 2 and Conker. And Halo 2 will be out for the PC soon enough.

XBox games are like PC games, only suckier. And lower resolution.

Seriously, what games are out for the current XBox that are compelling?

So far the only game that's made me want to buy a console of any kind is Spiderman 2. The PC version was a totally different game, and sucked horribly, while the console version (XBox, PS2, and others) was supposedly an excellent game. I resisted that urge, and just played some extra Counter Strike to make up for it.

Uh no absolutely no word on Halo 2 for the PC. The port of Halo kind of sucked too. Halo 2 was pretty decent..just the Ending sucked. In other FPS for the Xbox, Ghost Recon 2 never made it to the PC.

I perfer Sports Game on the Xbox vs the PC. Madden sucks with joystick.

I do have to agree that I wish there was more out there for the Xbox, but then again I might not be looking that hard I've enjoyed what I've played on it and personally I see the Next Gen consoles getting more releases then the PC in the years to come.

Plus with the Xbox360 running games in 720P on my 50in DLP, well that beats 20inch LCD I have for my PC

I have to admit that the PS3 demos look better than the 360.

But I plan to own all three systems. It's cheaper than buying video cards to keep up with next gen games. From a maintenance standpoint, I find console gaming less frustrating too. With PC gaming I've had to constantly play with drivers and various tweaks.

I have a big screen HDTV. As big as my computer monitors are, nothing beats playing on my TV.
            P.S. You've been Spanked!

Less frustrating, but also less fun. I just prefer the types of games available on the PC. If I could sit down in front of the TV and play Civ, or a good hard-core RPG, I would.

Up until last week I was going to buy an xbox at launch, with Civ4 knocking at the door, who knows.

So you bought console instead of simply USB PC pad, or even USB adapter to attach some console pad you like?

As for the topic...I won't buy it, actually I won't buy any next gen (or even current gen...) console, funds most go elsewhere, and besides no money I won't have time. At moast I'll try to repair my old PS1...

BTW, I envision that Xbox will will the console war over here. Or perhaps Revolution, if it also uses standard DVD. That, or...the people will think that PS3 games with reduced resolution of movies/movies cut away/etc. are good enough for them...

PS. Gurm, try Silent Hill Yes, 1, and don't be weeny when it comes to graphics. And try to enjoy it - which means proper conditions (night, dark, speakers on max or headphones) and not resisting what it does to you

I think it all just comes down to what kind of games you like and when you actually game. I work a lot of hours and my free time is spent with the family, so extended hours playing games on a computer is just not feasible (save for a game in the nature of Stellar Realms). I like to plop down on the couch and have at it on the Gamecube or Xbox with my kids, or do the same when we have some friends over. So the games you find on a console are perfect. Nevermind that even those gather dust at times, as I'd much rather be playing some futbol/soccer with the kids.

As a side note, there wouldn't be any consoles in this abode if my wife wasn't an expert at finding good deals at garage/yard sales

problem is that none of the PS3 demos were acctually rendered in real time. yes, the hardware can, in theory, execute the prototype engines responsible for the demos. can it execute it in real time and actually provide decent frame rates though? who knows. to my knowledge, all of the demos that were actually rendered on alpha kits were running at far less than playable frame rates.

personally... the XBox 360 looks kinda nice. i might get one eventially, definately not at launch though. it just depends on the games that come out. they have demonstrated some of what it can do and in the end it still will have some headroom. at this point it is the only sure bet as far as next gen consoles.

the PS3... well... i want to see it get released first... i honestly don't see it coming out ahead of the XBox though. the simpler dev platform always wins out in the end as there are relatively few developers who will sit down and develop a title optimized for just one platform now days. many are more than willing to trade performance for portability, especially when it comes to the sort of changes that would be involved in optimizing for the XB360 vs PS3.

the revolution... yyeeeaaaahhhh. uh huh. Nintendo likes to shoot themselves in the foot. The Gamecube was a nice console, but I honestly don't see the Revolution doing much better. they are playing for the "niche" markets with it - interesting ideas, just it generally doesn't work so well when you cram them down the consumers throat. take the DS as a great example of that.

"simpler dev platform always wins"? Where Xbox won over PS2?

Microsoft has a platform that is based on and/or similar to a majority of shipping computers on the market. Anyone with any experience writing Windows code should be able to make a game work on an XBox.

and what, exactly, does the PS2 have? I have never acctually heard the Official PS2 dev kits ever called easy to use. It's not like you can simply write a Linux game and release it mass market on the PS2 - liscening issues would prevent that. And last I checked, Sony does *not* include any sort of higher level API for handling graphics hardware or even hardware I/O.

as far as the end results... Microsoft succeeded in getting a foot in the door when it comes to the console game market. Sony came from the PS1, which undeniably beat the competition in it generation. I remember riots almost breaking out when people were trying to buy the PS2. and yet Microsoft, against all odds, has acctually broken into the console market and become a serious contender. while I cannot find current figures off hand, there have been several points in time where the XBox outsold the PS2 on at least a monthly basis.

that sounds a lot like winning to me.

Does anyone know how well the Xbox360 would intergrate into a home network? Just curious to see if i'll be able to browse to its hard drive from my home network...
