(once you buy the game of course)

You got my hopes up for xbox when you said silver is free, free but no gaming...bleh
You know what? That is shitty. I misunderstood what one gets with Silver.

I would guess that the Nintendo offering will be two tiered as well.

The free service will be for online gaming and the subscription service will be to have access to the back catalog.

I don't see them charging for individual games. There's simmply too many of them.
    P.S. You've been Spanked!

Wasn't aware that I was comparing the GPU to the cell...

                    Anyways...

If the cell is really that good in action why would they even use the video card? Why not just more cell cores? And if the cell is really that good, why hasn't it invaded the PC market?

Yeah not all MAME games work, and i'll admit that of all the emulators, the N64 is the weakest. My point was, the 360 will not offer me anything new.

If i had a HDTV, or they started to release afordable, playable games then perhaps things would be different. But for those without HTVD, a vanilla xbox is they way to go.

It doesn't matter it wasn't compared to GPU - you simply stated it was no match And while that might be true for "office" kind of stuff...this stuff isn't speed limited by ANY cpu on market today. The tasks that are limited are precisely the ones at which Cell is geared.
BTW, I'm not saying that Opterons will be no match in a similar way to what you did, I'm saying that we most probably have something interesting here and we should wait, not state without any proofs that it will be a flop
And are you really serious in last three questions?

                        • Yeah why not? They put the cell up against the gpu core in video processing related tests - what I am questioning is the whole point of that test. What are they trying to prove with it?

Six months from now, the 360 will look silly compared to the GeFart 9000 or the Radeon Giga600 or whatever is out. In 2 years? Forget it. This system was supposed to be a quantum leap forward in graphics quality, but it turns out that turning on AF and FSAA is too costly in processing power - to the point that not a single game available now does it. And yes, I have links for the screenshots to show the horrifying jaggies and bad filtering on the 360, but as y'all have pointed out I'm a bit tired and disorganized. But seriously, the BIG selling argument everyone uses is "I can play it on my HDTV!". Guess what - if you can see the jaggies and the bad filtering on a REGULAR TV... it'll look SCARY on an HDTV. Oops!

Wonder if NEXT generation consoles will come with upgradable GPU & CPUs. I think a socket 939 xbox would be pretty cool I would like to see how an FX-57 does in there as opposed to the cell

Absolutely. But you know what? When the PS2 came out, you just did NOT have graphics like that on a PC. Even the XBox was head and shoulders above the current crop of graphics cards at the time - it had the NEXT chip from nVidia in it. This time around, you can already buy a better card for the PC. The graphics of the XBox 360 do not impress - meaning it will have to stand on its games. Sadly, that's NOT the XBox's strong suit!
