    Article says it all....

    CLINTON TOWNSHIP, MICHIGAN --

Carla Grassley always thought of her parents, Carlo and Catherine Tuzzolino, as romantics.

They'd waltz to the sounds of their favorite records in the basement of their Clinton Township home and hold hands at church.

Some family friends called the couple "bookends" because where one went, the other was not far behind. And that's the way they were their entire lives, she said.

"They were pretty cute," said Grassley, 52, of Farmington Hills. "They always were very affectionate. They were always embarrassing me when I was little."

Carlo Tuzzolino died of a stroke Friday at St. Joseph's Medical Center-West in Clinton Township. He was 93.

Two hours later, before relatives had a chance to tell Catherine Tuzzolino of her husband's death, she died of complications from a fall. She was 90.

The couple died the day before the anniversary of their meeting -- 72 years ago at Wayne State University, formerly known as Detroit City College, which they both attended.

They were married for 67 years and adopted Grassley and her brother, Robert Tuzzolino, 54, when they were babies.

"You kind of brace yourself for losing one of them, but we didn't expect to lose both of them at once," Grassley said.

"I think they planned it, honestly. They did everything together, and I guess they figured they were going to do this together, too.

I'd like us to go that way, although we have been married only 47 years.

Nearly the same thing happened with my great-grandparents a couple of years back, they died within 2 days of each other...must have been married for at least 65 years, went through a famine and a world war together.
