So aren't you saying the same thing as Wombat?
Ladies and gentlemen, take my advice, pull down your pants and slide on the ice.

I don't like the word "nigger" either, but again it's far easier than "black people who insist on staying ignorant and fulfilling all stereotypes heaped upon them".

      Give me a better term.
I hate to say it, but I agree with this too. in fact, there is only a few people who i even refer to as "White Trash" and it's simply for the fact that they are - there is no getting around it. they grew up in bumble**** somewhere and even after moving into "normal" society they continue to walk and act like white trash. i'll give everyone the chance to grow past their own upbringing. but there are people who, by their own choice - concious or not - decide to be white trash.

But does that give you the right to call them white trash? What is acceptable to you may or may not be acceptable to someone else.

i would say something about the right to free speech and all that... but i kinda think it's horseshit and generally an excuse to be a jackass.

here's the thing - i don' throw it at them as an insult. i'll use the term in front of people who did come from bumble**** nowhere. most of them don't give a shit because they generally are not white trash - even if they came from it they know they are not it anymore. or they are and they know it and really don't give a shit.

the only people who would actually get offended by it are generally the ones who are labeled as it. it is not thrown as an insult, but it is used because these people are generally trying to make a point of acting like they are not white trash - that they are better than that.

which is actually part of the reason they are white trash.

That one is cultural and on is racial? I never said he was wrong, but I don't agree that makes one more or less derogatory.

I'm not saying that some people aren't deserving of the term, because we all know that some are, but tossing the term around and using it to refer to anyone who comes from a lower class of society and happens to shop somewhere other than Gap or a high-end audio emporium is just as ignorant as what the term implies.

Alright, this is being taken a bit more seriously than I intended it to be, but whether one is white trash or not is pretty much their decision, unless they are just so stupid and ingrained into that attitude that they just can't see another way to be. I have known lots of poor white people, some who are fat and some who live in trailers or shacks, but you can be all of those things and still not be white trash.. it's the attitude. The "I don't give a shit.. get me a carton of cigarettes and an 18 pack, and I'll talk your ears off in a way that makes you sure I did lots of heavy drugs earlier in life and have holes in my brain" attitude.

Yeah, it's derogatory, and I'm sorry I used it, but still, people need to decide for themselves what they are going to be. Look at Cary Grant.. penniless cockney urchin Archie Leach decides he is going to become a suave sophisticate.. and DOES. Of course it helps to have a brain in your head along the way.

And of course, there are lots of other items there they hope you will buy without checking the price.. just assuming they are lower than anyone else, but they aren't. Wal-Mart didn't get rich by losing money, you know.

Yeah, speaking specifically about the computer industry, those big box stores make a fortune on consumables and accessories, like cables.

For example, the same Belkin USB cable that I buy from distribution for $8, they sell for $40. And I usually see markups of between 10%-20% on ink cartridges.

The only time I can't beat a big box store on price is when one item's been discontinued by the manufacturer and they've made a special deal to buy out the remaining stock from the distribution channel.
                    P.S. You've been Spanked!

When I took a job interview with CompUSA they told the samething..they make their money on cables and what not, not on the computer sold, because the markup on them was so slim because everyone else and their brother was selling them
Why is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?

My brother just got a new Dell. He got a huge deal but refused to let them include a USB cable for his multifunction device. The reason? Dell's 3ft. USB cable is $45!
