It WAS worse last time. Logan was 10lb. 14oz. and delivered "naturally". Jacob, at least, was a scheduled C-Section. We had NO desire to deal with the whole "4th level tearing" thing again, and the risk goes UP for subsequent pregnancies, as does the risk of complications. We dodged a bullet last time - no cystoseal, no rectoseal (I'm probably spelling those wrong), no descended bladder, no loss of sensation, no incontinence. We're REALLY lucky. The odds of being that lucky with another level 4 tear are SLIM. Add to that the fact that Julie's sister ALSO tore that bad, with a much smaller (6.5lb.) baby, and you have a genetic predisposition. So she's up and walking around today - and in a bit of pain but nothing that isn't manageable with tylenol-3. She turned down the percocet, vicodin and whatever because she really hates the way those make you feel.

For those who wish to do it the natural way, perineal massage is a must. Gradual, repeated stretching (with kegel exercises) should be taught in every birthing class.Comment

Try 750 mg of Vicodin with a 100 mg Demerol chaser sometime, then repeat every 4 hours for 2-3 months
