Remember the famous Hubble image "Pillars of Creation"? Well, there's another space telesope in town called Spitzer.
Spitzer is an infrared telescope and it's making its own mark with the "Mountains of Creation" image. Like PoC this is an image of a stellar nursery;

Kewl.....
This ability to image things invisible at optical wavelengths is why there is so much emphasis on infrared telescopes like Spitzer and the upcoming James Webb Space Telescope.
Another advantage: each of these new telescopes costs less than a single Hubble refurb mission while offering high resolving power at wavelengths Hubble can't touch.
