  • Sasq, A small Favor if you please?

Do you live anywhere near a good botanical garden? Could I trouble you to score me a couple of photos of some good Bonsai specimens?

Been raising my own Bonsai for about twenty years now. Took me the first five years to master the art of keeping them alive from one growing season to the next. Finally have a few that are starting to look pretty good. But I need some fresh inspiration. Nothing like going directly to the source!

    Thanks,

    Kevin

See what I can find, might need to give me a few weeks, busy as hell at work.
though I will ask my co-workers to see if they can drag up any local sites with lots of pics.

If you ever happen to travel north-east, the best collection of bonsai in N. America is to be found in the Montreal botanical gardens. I may have some photos I took of some of the specimens there.

                These are interesting also.

Seriously though, that's a really cool hobby!

                  Awesome pix! Thanks, guys.

Those larger specimens can be up to several hundred years old. Often they're collected from the wild and trained into pots over a period of years, which is an artform in itself.

The biggest problem I run into is a scarcity of proper Bonsai-style pots. Since I'm the only person in town (as far as I know) who does this, I have to go through mail order which, depending on what I want, can be quite pricy.

Hopefully in another ten or fifteen years mine will start to look as fine as some of these. I just have to be reminded from time to time that such things are possible!

One thing is certain: It's taught me more PATIENCE then I ever thought possible!

Amazingly (or maybe not so amazingly) many people were taken in by the Bonsai Kitten website to the point that they filed complaints with the SPCA.

Well if you like that sort of humor...

How many dead babies does it take to fill up a cement mixer?
