Yeah I heard about this a while back, and I think I commented then that this sounds suspiciously like the plot of an issue of an old "adult" comic by Phil Foglio (of Studio Foglio) called XXXenophile. Guy taps a spring to fill his swimming pool only to discover the spring has a naiad in it. Later episodes involve rescuing some trees from loggers that have dryads in them.

But it sounds like a good movie nonetheless.
