Film crew fired on....
October 5, 2005—Yesterday afternoon, a crew filming a documentary about 2 miles west of the Coronado National Memorial was fired upon by what was described as members of the Mexican Army.
The crew, from CDW Films in Corona Del Mar, California, was in the area filming footage for a documentary on the Minutemen who are monitoring the U.S./Mexico border as they did in April of this year.
The crew had gone out to explore areas along the border with two guides unrelated to the Minuteman activities. The driver of a 4 X 4 pickup truck requested his name not be associated with any reports because of fears of retaliation from the gunmen. However, he offered a full recount of the situation.

In the face of tightened security along the border, increasingly desperate drug and immigrant traffickers have assaulted agents with rocks, marbles fired from slingshots, even gunfire and Molotov cocktails.
At least 687 assaults against agents were recorded in the fiscal year that ended on September 30, up from 354 in the previous year, and the highest since the agency began tracking assaults along the border, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Projectiles hurled by smugglers and migrants have dented Border Patrol vehicles and shattered windshields. Agents in the Tucson and San Diego sectors have reported being shot at 43 times, compared to 18 times the previous year.

Not every day passes without confrontation, however. He recounted several gunfights with the "coyotes", including one occasion when he and his business partner came under fire at dusk as they barbecued steaks.
"They started the war when they started shooting at us. One time, my partner definitely hit one of them. The guy got away, but I doubt he got far. His friends won't have taken him to hospital. They probably just left him out there somewhere,"

TIJUANA, Mexico, Oct 25 (Reuters) - Unidentified gunmen handcuffed and shot dead a Mexican priest in this violent city on the U.S. border, authorities said on Tuesday, in a killing that bore the hallmarks of a drug execution.
Father Luis Velasquez Romero was shot six times at close range and his body dumped in his car on Monday at a mall in Tijuana, an industrial city south of San Diego, police said. His hands were bound in cuffs behind his back.
