He's already taking Spanish
He has a friend whose family speaks it at home, so Erik decided to take a 2 hour/week Spanish "class" at school in lieu of a couple of his gym classes. He also has a Spanish tutorial he reads regularly.
Like I said; self-motivated.

Spanish is enough for now, and becoming pretty much essential in many parts of the US. If he were to ask about learning another one later I'd probably say either German or Chinese.

But...it's not a matter of "for now", it might be too late if he will learn Spanish for too long!
And, more seriously, I just find the linked thing very interesting, and consider it as, in worst case, "not harmfull". Probably it gives a lot.
Anyway, it's a moot point if he wants to learn Spanish
