  • Source of abductee "aliens" identified....

    It's an embedded image of their mother modded by a babies inherent astigmatism and a shallow focal plane;

Space aliens are described as having large heads, big eyes, gray skin, smooth features and small mouths, but psychologist Frederick Malmstrom believes these 'visions' of space aliens are actually the image of the prototypical female face hardwired into ev

Could they please attach an altered picture of female to any of those articles? (I assume the one of "grey" there isn't it ...I don't think the vision of newborn is so distorted...)

edit: You know, this explanation is overall quite OK, but one question bothers me - why those images look scary to me? They shouldn't, if they're similar to hardwired image of mother...

When I was little I had a sneaking feeling my mother had been replaced by an alien

Once I got older and saw Body Snatchers I was convinced of it

100% ditto on what Nowhere said.

I want to see the "original" pics... and to know why we FEAR these images (and they are scary) if they're what's "hardwired" into our brains in place of "mother".

          Ok, found it:

          (from http://www.technovelgy.com/ct/Scienc...sp?NewsNum=496 ).

          Still, the question remains...

edit: And one more thing. I'm in no way "PC freak", but...isn't it a bit racist explanation? Kinda like Daniken explaining monuments of Egyptians or Aztecs but ignoring Panteon, Colloseum or middle-ages cathedrals.
Of course if "greys" witnessed by black people are actually "blacks" (wonder if there are such reports) this would give it a credibility...

          edit2: Lots more

edit3: I've read it, and it seems that image above applies only immediatelly after birth, the vision capabilities become better quite rapidly. Could it be connection we make with possibly unpleasant process of birth/what's immediatelly after?

Or it could be impressions of the Dr/nurse etc. attending the birth.

Why don't people don't consider anime characters to be frightening or have dreams of being abducted by them?

OK, here's a new idea: what if...the process of birth/how the newborn is handled immediatelly afterwards influences whether he belongs to one of following two groups?

                    a) people who are afraid of images of "greys" and are indiffirent to anime/manga (like me - sure, I can read/watch some good manga/anime, but that's it) - they have been "mistreated" during birth (it would fit in my case...Apgar score of 1, resuscitation & few days in incubator)

                    b) people who don't care much about "greys", but absolutelly love anime/manga (few of my buddies - they watch it even if it's total shit; basically just because it's anime/manga; and there are quite a lot of people like that) - those who could receive proper care/contact as soon as possible

And the thing is...this can be quite easily checked.

PS. Also, is it just my impression or...the number of "abductions" is much lower in recent decade or so? So...the maximum would correspond to adult life of people who were the first generation universally under medical care during birth...but in their time importance of early child-mother contact was neglected.

PPS. And...recent surge in anime/manga popularity explained by more proper care of newborns, not only by greater availability? (but srsly...if in Japan traditionally there was great insistence over newborn-mother contact, that could be one of the arguments also...)

                          Indeed!

It did immediatly remind of a quote from the upcoming movie Monsters vs. Aliens: "Once again, a UFO has landed in America. The only country where UFOs seem to land."

hmm, I have to take that into account...US was more susceptible because of hating for some time all Japanese, and that includes manga/anime which would provide them with a way to accomodate traumatic birth experience?

(and hey, that's why old threads are for if something new pops out )
