  • Buried West Virginia miners found ALIVE

    Tallmansville, WVa;

    Cable NEWS channels are reporting that 12 of the 13 miners stranded underground by a gas explosion ~250 feet down have been found ALIVE. Tears all over the place (even the reporters), church bells ringing etc. etc.

    If true this is a WONDERFUL New Years present for those families

    Unfortunately the 13th was found dead earlier today;

      The annoucement that 12 of 13 had survived was made to the media at the community church by Gov. Joe Manchin (D) of West Virginia. Later reports now confirm that was not the case. The fact is that 12 have died and only one survived and he is in critical condition.

      Who's running that operation, Bullwinkle Moose?

      I don't care how the misinformation was reported to the command center, Gov. Manchin announcing that info before it had been confirmed it was anything but smart. Of course it was left up to the president of the mining company to break the bad news, and they had been holding it for 3+ hours

      If I were those families I'd be at the mining company and Governors doorsteps with pitchforks.

          Our paper didn't get the story changed befor printing.

          I knew about the mistake, then read the pre-mistake headline when I opened the paper.

          Gruesome.

            From what I read it looks like people overheard rescuers talking on cell phones, assumed the best and spread the news. The mayor then f'ed up.

            News is now about getting "the scoop", right or wrong, first, so news stations don't confirm much of what they receive.

              The company is now saying they heard two different stories on the rescue radios, but didn't go to the families and report the conflicting info even after the "11 rescued" news broke.

              Dumbasses.

                EDIT: No, Doc was right. It really was unnecessary when read in the morning with a clear head, and just a cheap shot ... apologies.

                Sympathies to the families involved.
