  • Suggestions for scratching off that sticker?

Story: the enclosure of my friends computer was, uhmm...rendered unusuable (surpisingly most of parts inside are intact...)
Not a big deal - of course she calls me, and so on...but for some reason she expects also from me to take care about moving that Windows 2000 sticker from one case to another (you'll say that's formally not legal? Perhaps, but better than no license, and anyways the cases are nearly identical (uhmm...apart from the condition of one of them ). I'll probably use this thing, wasting huge amount of time...but perhaps any of you had this problem and know a way/physical conditions to make this glue "softer"?
Yes, I can cut off the part (it's plastic there) wreckage on which there is sticker to mistreat it in any imaginable way.

Hair dryer. Peel off SLOWLY. Let the heat do the work.

Not that I'd actually know anything about that .

            Wouldn't isopropanol do the job?
            (can anyone confirm?)

If so, it could however damage the plastic...

There is a product called "Goo Gone". Since the case is useless, I would recommend:

              1. Soak the sticker thoroughly in "Goo Gone". It will soak through the sticker without destroying it, and begin to dissolve the glue behind it.

              2. Once the Goo Gone has dried, you may find the sticker removeable. If NOT, then it's time to break out the hair dryer.

I'd leave the razor blade as a last resort.

              ---------------

Of course, what I want to know is how the windshield replacement guy managed to transfer my inspection sticker from my old windshield to my new one - those things are IMPOSSIBLE to remove!

wd-40 does an excellent job of removing glue.
turn the case so it faces up, apply wd-40 and let it soak for an hour or so.
                remove.
only problem is now you have a badge void of glue.

                try the hair dryer

Yes, if you can't locate Goo-Gone, WD-40 works too. I like goo-gone largely because it has a pleasant orange smell and doesn't leave nasty stains should it dribble off the surface I'm working with.

OK, I think I'm set now.
Atlhough I've never heard about Goo-Gone and KONTAKT 244 would end up expensive, I can get WD-40 for free :>
                    And, eventually, hairdryer.

BTW, on demolished case it was placed in front of it (thus it sits on plastic) but I think it's weird and will stick it somewhere else...is there some MS guideline, etc. where it "should" be placed?

On my parents' dell, it's on the left side, in the upper-right corner.

No. Sony puts them on the front, Dell on the side. My grandmother's Compaq has it on the back, between the PSU and slots.

Just rip the sticker off and replace it with one that says "fvck you, Bill Gates!"
