  • Boooo - no one should go to E3 Expo

    http://news.com.com/Sexy+booth+babes...l?tag=nefd.top

The video game industry's 2006 E3Expo trade show in Los Angeles is getting a makeover--banned are the swarms of sexy, semi-clad "booth babes" that in years past took the unveiling of new games and technology to titillating new levels.

"Material, including live models, conduct that is sexually explicit and/or sexually provocative, including but not limited to nudity, partial nudity and bathing suit bottoms, are prohibited on the show floor, all common areas, and at any access points to the show."

Somehow, I feel such things are possible only in America...

Let me clarify: I fully support E3 in saying no to porn.

Do you mean silly puritanicalness? Yep, probably right. Unless you count those places where not wearing a burkha means you are a whore asking to be raped.

GameSpot contacted the ESA regarding the nascent controversy. An E3 staffer said that the rules regarding attire have always been in place and that they have long not been enforced. "People largely ignored us," said the staffer, saying that booth babes would merely relocate to other parts of the show floor when asked to dress a little more modestly. The rep said the $5,000 fine was introduced this year to add some teeth to the regulation.

But does that mean there won't be models hawking publishers' latest wares at E3? In a word, no. Like at virtually every other trade expo, E3 exhibitors will use attractive women to help make inroads with mostly male E3 attendees. But are they on notice not to be as risqué as in past years? Given the still-simmering fallout from last year's "Hot Coffee" Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas sex-mini-game scandal, the answer appears to be "yes."
            P.S. You've been Spanked!

This does not mean they can't have booth babes, they just can't be semi-nude, or semi-clad as they put it. So booth babes, yes. Pr0n babe, no.

What's the difference between looking at a booth babe wearing normal attire and just going to a cafe and people watching?

Or, someone can still have sexy babes, pay the $5000 fine and enjoy the view.

It's partly designed to curb pr0n at the show. There are under age kids who go through the show since it is open to the public. This means there is a liability for the organizers if some parent/gaurdian type is walking through the show and their kid sees something that is illegal for them to see (pr0n is illegal for kids under the age of 18 in the states), like a nip slip, a flash, or something under a skirt.

E3 is not open to the public, and it also has an age limit of 18 & up.

Fortunately I saved the Boothbabes video from last year's E3.

So it is. I could of sworn that it was open to the public. Maybe I'm think of the old COMDEX or CES that was closed but now open to the public. Then really ... I don't know why they would enact all the silly rules.

                            Strange.

I guess the only thing left would be to "keep the show professional" and not turn it into a sex-fest.
