Please take it easy on Brian. He's been luxurating on Crete too long and doesn't realize there's a part of the world where teachers/mentors having sex with their pupils is frowned upon

He may be innocent until proven guilty, but with several accusers and morons for a school board (not too unusual) the odds are decreasing exponentially that he is not.
Lots of important decisions are made on weaker probabilities than this and the first one should have been to suspend him with pay. That would have at least prevented the confrontation in the first place, making this all more than a little bit the schools fault. This was like waving a red flag in front of a bull then blaming it for you getting your ass hammered
It will also likely cause a jury to tell the prosecutor to take a hike by coming back with a jury nullification. Because of this if I were the prosecutor I'd drop the charges at the first hint that it would go to a jury. No sense wasting the publics resources.
Yes, in the US a jury can come back with a 'not guilty' verdict in the face of evidence to the contrary.
This often happens when they feel the prosecutor is over charging or when the charged person was unreasonably provoked....esp. when the govt. (the school board) had a big part to do with the provocation.

Sorry, bollocks. Now if the father had actually seen the guy bothering his daughter and the rest of the story remained the same, then then your analogy might hold. >snip> Does not make it right.
The father could have seen a great deal of things he might have minsinterpreted, what then?
So, even if you see it happen before your very eyes, doing anything against a non-convicted person is wrong. See, sometimes your instincts know better right from wrong than you're overly PC mind..

Just out of curiosity, how would you AZ, Wombat and everyone else react if your daughter comes home, telling you that her teacher did anything undecent to her, from brushing his genitals against her to practically groping her. Would you remain so cool minded and give the school a friendly call? What if other girls tell a similar story, will you agree to send your child to a place where such a person has authority over them, let alone manage to sleep at night?
Give me a break, real life and your silly fantasies about 'justice' aren't compatible.

Funny how people speak of 'the law of the land' in such way and then speak of the rotten politicians who make all kinds of horrid laws in another way.
Yes, there is a law, but is that law always right? Is that law absolute? Is that law rigid? At least in the U.S, as Dr.M said, there is a jury, which in turn can decide to what extent this 'law of the land' goes.
If you can't stand your lawmakers, you'd better question the laws they make as well.
According to some laws, you should sit tight and watch people ruin your family and life before your very eyes without even moving a finger.
edit: A silly little proof of concept - When you get a speeding/parking ticked you might be able to avoid, do you rush to pay it, or do your best to avoid it?

I normally punch the officer in question, as the law is stupid.. you?

girl: Daddy? My teacher, mr X touched me today, he.. he grabbed me. PC dad: He did? Are you sure? Isn't it some revenge you have against him because he gave you a low grade? girl: DAD!? He grabbed my breast! PC dad: Hmm.. Well, I suppose I'll call your school and notify them. Meanwhile keep your distance from him till they decide how to take care of the subject. girl: That's it !? PC dad: Yes, ofcourse, now go do your homework and for gods sake, try to dress a bit more conservative?
girl: Dad.. He came after me to the girl's room when I was alone and, he did things, worse things... PC dad: Look hun, the school didn't call back about my complaint so obviously they're still investigating the subject. Since you can't keep your distance from him, I suspect you either fail to dress in a conservative manner or maybe you and your friends are conspiring against that teacher. Anyway, I suggest you skip school and stay at home till the matter comes to closure.
Yeah, right!

You are totally right. Punching the guy will defenitely help the situation. Punching him will not make the teacher less likely to touch anyone again, even if it felt good at that time. If anything, it left his daughter totally unprotected by him, as he had to go to jail for assault. Smart move indeed.

Yeah, right!
First, your BS about "dressing more conservative" has nothing to do with this scenario. Second, I *might* go in there and demand that this teacher be moved and/or observed full-time. But I would absolutely not go in and punch him in class. Also, this is high school, and if you've had a child that long, one that ends up getting suspended, etc, then you probably know that this child is not always truthful.

Totally unprotected, riiiight, she was hunted in the streets by a gang or rabid dogs since the girl is homeless and has no family...
That girl was assaulted at SCHOOL by one of her TEACHERS. She's probably safer alone in the street than in a school that keeps such teachers in direct contact with the students that accuse them with assault.
I'm SO happy I'm not your child.
