I don't think the Oakleys have wide or double wide. My feet are relatively thin, so I have never thought of wides before. Now that I think of it, I remember when Dock Martin's were really popular and I liked how they looked, so I went to the store and tried tham on, unfortunately they looked way to wide on my foot. I looked like I had Ronald McDonald feet

Ecco makes a damn good shoe, and they are normally fairly wide. I can wear a regular Ecco shoe and it will be comfortable, and last for several years. I love their sandals though. Damn comfortable, stylish, and last me about a year. Which for me, is a bloody long time. Ecco hiking shoes will generally last me 2 years, which is obscenely long in Jammrock Shoe Years. The last non-NB/Ecco shoe I owned lasted less than 6 months.

If your using your sneakers for anything more then tooling around in, they should be replaced every couple hundred miles or ever 6 months or so if they are used nearly everyday

hrmm, i was considering oakley shoes awhile back but didn't really have a reference from anyone that owned them - I will have to check them out.

My last two pairs of hiking boots (which I use as work boots and walking shoes as well) have been Hi-Tec. They are the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned. Some versions are decently waterproof -- I've quickly stepped through creeks, walked during huge downpours and gone in snow without getting my socks wet. I have slightly wide feet, most normal shoes feel a little cramped while wide shoes feel a little loose. For Hi-Tec I just buy a size bigger and it fits great. I mention them because they can be found for much cheaper then Ecco shoes. Although if you are going for more stylish walking shoes I'd go with Ecco.

I buy mine off of ebay, makes them even cheaper I'll tell you though, the ones from ebay are "army issued" boots so they don't have the cool red triangle logo on the side, but I've owned both and they are exactly the same minus the triangle. What I mean by "army issued" is that Oakley contracts out the the US military and the boots off of ebay are the same ones the military gets, the non-civilian version.

I can't speak for Ecco since I have never worn them but I have owned Hi-Tec. They are a very well built boot and fairly comfortable, but the Oakleys are lighter and more comfortable IMHO. And the Oakleys are just as water proof. The tongue connects all the way up to the last two holes. I can't comment on the side issue though, so maybe that is the deal breaker for most.

Yeah I think my cousin in the Canadian Army gets Oakley stuff too, I remember him telling me about the sunglasses they get, which are exactly the same but without any logo's or anything

I hear ya, I like the logo too BTW, there are reviews of the Oakley Assault boot around the web.
