  • Cheap hotels in London (England)

Well my girlfriend managed to get us 230000 British Airway airmiles as a bonus from her boss, to use on a trip to Denmark in March. We will stop over in London for a couple of days, as she has never been.
We would be looking for a hotel in London for roughly March 20-23 or so.. not sure about the dates till the tickets are booked
Does anyone have a suggestion as to where to stay to keep this trip under budget?.. any areas to avoid?

Also, with 2 or 3 days in London, which touristy things should we aim for ?

    Thanks

I'm afraid 'cheap' and 'London' rarely go together, especially with hotels. Check out Forte Posthouse and Travellodge. Don't stay in the centre if you want to keep the cost down, unless George has a free room

Do the London Eye for a good overview, this can be combined with a boat trip that gives you more info. The Natural History Museum is very good, and free. A full answer would be very long indeed.

When I was in london for work in '99, we stayed at "Hyde Park Residence", which are "luxury serviced apartments" right on Park Lane (next to the McLaren dealership!!). It was basically a fully furnished apartment with a full kitchen, and it had maid service twice a week, for about half of what a hotel costs. Alas, I just looked them up, and it seems they now have a minimum stay of 90 days. When I was there, they had shorter term stays (we only stayed for a week).

You may be able to find something similar, but in general, staying in London is crazy expensive.

I just got the flight information:

Flight Segment: Toronto Terminal 3 To Heathrow (London) Terminal 4

        Departure: 19 Mar 2006 20:55
        Arrival: 20 Mar 2006 09:05

Flight Segment: Heathrow (London) Terminal 4 To Copenhagen Terminal 2
        Departure: 22 Mar 2006 16:15
        Arrival: 22 Mar 2006 19:15

so that looks like 2 days to see, probably a months worth of touristy things
I think Tower of London will be a must. ( girlfriend studied History in University)
Eye of London too, if the lineup is not as bad as it was last I was there in 2000.. looked like the lineups in disneyland.. we will make it to the Natural History Museum too

When I was there last, we stayed in some hotel near Euston station, which I was told was fairly cheap, but I now have no idea the name of it.. I would love to stay in the luxury serviced apartments as Agallag described, but chances are they would not let use have such for 2 nights

I'm afraid the little brother is in residence in the spare room at the moment

No idea about hotels here, as of course I never use them (no, not even hourly...). Probably the best deals are available on the internet though.

Also, living here, I am probably the worst person to give advice on where to go. Wot Tony said makes sense though. Depends what you both like doing - whatever it is, it's likely that London has something suitably world-class to suit you And it needn't be ridiculously expensive - a lot of the museums and galleries are free for the most part, unless you want to go to a special exhibition.

What. letting a brother stay in your spare bedroom instead of complete strangers..

I was not looking to mooch on anyone anyways.. just a cheap hotel option .. though if someone here owned a hotel...

I found this on the net.. does anyone here know if they legit enough to try out?

Need to save money while travelling? We are here to help

Seems to be not too terribly expensive from there starting at 26 pounds per person / night
about the same as a cheap hotel around here would charge.

Seems this is the hotel I was at last..
