  • Man breaks helicopter...

Kinda wierd how it doesn't tear itself apart until things are slowing down though

      It looks staged to me...

I can't imagine any pilot not realizing that something is wrong when the helicopter starts shaking and not take off.

Actually, that looked like a GRF test. GRF is Ground Resonance Factor: every helicopter experiences it to a certain degree. A helicopter which is still on the ground but is in the process of taking off is susceptible to this: it's not yet flying, but it is at maximum power. Spend too long on the ground underr those conditions and normal vibrations can turn into a dangerous harmonic. There are guidelines about how much torque you are permitted to use on takeoff and how long you can use that much torque with the aircraft on the ground. If those guidelines are exceeded, the machine can and will tear itself apart.

Chinooks are really large helicopters, and as you can see, it literally shook itself apart because of this. This was probably a condemned aircraft they chose to check the GRF on the airframe to see how the age of the aircraft affects the GRF.
