How about the voice of reality? As a pragmatist, I feel obliged to point out that as multicultural and global as we'd all like to be... cultural/racial/national prejudices run deep. If you judge by our last election here, almost 50% of the country is pretty xenophobic, and I'm pretty sure that our president couldn't FIND half the countries we've listed in this thread even if given a perfectly good map.
And the USA isn't alone. Half the world is neighbors with a country they HATE and are trying to destroy.
This isn't to say I wouldn't like to see it. But I think that William Gibson's dystopian vision of a future where the big cities are perfectly homogenized, but the rural areas are still violently segregated... where wars are fought that the city dwellers barely know about, much less participate in... where multinational corporations and conglomerates pretty much run things, and the government's job is basically to wage war on other governments... where it's far more important what CITY you're in than what COUNTRY or CONTINENT that city is in/on...
