Quikc sum:
- No PS3 this Spring for anyone
- PS3 will be released in Asia, Europe and the US in early Nov 2006, meaning simultaneous worldwide release.
- The reason for the delay is the finalizing of Blu-ray security
- PS3 will be backwards compatible with PS2/1 games, also meaning it will play BD, DVD, and CD.
- It will come with a 60 GB HDD standard, pre-loaded with Linux, that is upgradeable. Devs were told to design their games knowing that there will be a HDD in each system.
- Production capacity is expected to be 1 million units a month. They expect that there will be 6 million PS3 released by March 2007.
- Basic online game play, dubbed "PlayStation Network Platform", will be free of charge, though many speculated that there will be a premium service that will be pay-for.
- Finalized dev kits will reach developers in June.
That just about covers all the important stuff.
oh ... the PSP will drop to $199 in the US later this month, and get a browser upgrade that support flash 6 content, and get VoIP functionality.
