  • Texas arresting people in bars for being drunk

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Texas has begun sending undercover agents into bars to arrest drinkers for being drunk, a spokeswoman for the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission said on Wednesday.

The first sting operation was conducted recently in a Dallas suburb where agents infiltrated 36 bars and arrested 30 people for public intoxication, said the commission’s Carolyn Beck.

Being in a bar does not exempt one from the state laws against public drunkenness, Beck said.
hmmm, i didn't think you could get drunk on watered-down soapy horse piss they call beer down in the US.

jeeez, musta been a low crime day.
you'd think they would have better things to do then arrest folks for being drunk in a bar.

    To quote Ron White:
"Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey! I was drunk in a bar! They, threw me into public-KA! I don't want to be drunk in public! I wanna be drunk in a bar, which is perfectly legal! Arrest them!"
Yeah, well I'm gonna build my own lunar space lander! With blackjack aaaaannd Hookers! Actually, forget the space lander, and the blackjack. Ahhhh forget the whole thing!

As a bar is private, not public, property, I would have thought the law could act only by invitation of the owner. The next step is for the cops to irrupt into the privacy of one's home to prevent one from subsequently driving or throwing oneself onto the edge of a swimming pool, should one be pissed. I see little difference. Oops, sorry I didn't see that this was Texas, where Vice Presidents can shoot lawyers with impunity and where Presidents can do all sorts of other nefarious acts - I forgot that the law hardly exists there, as it does elsewhere!

No, they're public spaces. Anybody can walk in or out (age/cover charge does not count as a private club).

So basically what you're saying is you should shut up because you know nothing about American beer?

B'ah, MGD is pretty good, Bud kinda sucks though. Still, I do prefer Canadian beer, especially the microbreweries.

Anyways, to stay ontopic, a bar IS the best place to find drunks.

Don't some states have 3.2% laws, where supermarkets are only allowed to sell beer at 3.2% ?

                    LOL,
seems there are a few others.

Oklahoma convenience and grocery stores cannot sell beer or wine coolers with more than 3.2 percent alcohol. Big-name domestic breweries, including Anheuser-Busch, Miller and Coors, brew lower-point beer for the Sooner State and five others. Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Minnesota and Utah also sell 3.2 beer.

Yes they are, in many aspects of American law.
