Cool, it appears to work untethered (battery power).

Shouldn't that be "wonder how wind handles it"?

Radio Shack, if they have them up there, has some cool indoor/outdoor RC helicopters:

Welcome to RadioShack's official website. Search and shop for electronics, gaming devices, powerbanks, audio products and business traveling gear.

We used to have Radio Shacks up here, almost all of them where converted to 'The Source by Circuit City' due to dome legal issues.

Those look pretty cool though, but I'm looking at something a little more serious.

Probably Nitro powered in a 30 size - about a meter in length or so -something like this

I'm keeping my eye on a few models on ebay, and if everything works out I should be crashing one in about a week or so
( j/k about the crashing part , but I understand they are not the easiest things to fly)

Are you going to try something like this?

and he was fighting a decent wind too

I think I'll spend about a week just learning to hover properly

Hmm...you could start learning already in simulator (there are even options of attaching real control unit to PC...)

Someone once described flying model helicopters to me as "like balancing two ping-pong balls on your finger tip...in a force ten gale!"

You need deep pockets for that hobby Pat. Good luck, I hope you enjoy it. I fancy it myself but no-one will lend me theirs for some reason
