  • Sweeney Todd (2008)

    IMDB doesn't have much yet, but some info was in Hollywood Reporter today;

    Director: Tim Burton
    Adaptation: John Logan ("The Aviator") from the Stephen Sondheim musical
    Sweeney Todd: Johnny Depp

    Also found these;

    Sweeney Todd is a fictional villain. A barber and serial killer, the character appears in various English-language works starting in the mid-19th century. His weapon of choice is a straight razor, with which he cuts his victim's throats; in some versions of the story his friend and accomplice, Margery (sometimes Nellie) Lovett, bakes the carcasses into meat pies. Whether Todd or Lovett actually existed remains a matter of debate.
    and
    Long before there was Freddy Krueger, or even Jack the Ripper, there was the legend of the Demon Barber of Fleet Street, and most readers assumed it was just that — legend. Bond's statement that Sweeney Todd is pure fiction is correct in one respect: the Sondheim musical, which has played to critical acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic, is a fictional account of the life of Sweeney Todd.
    Sure sounds like a Burton/Depp project to me
