Ever hear about the little kid that fell on a rebar and it went right through his heart? The little ribs on the rebar lodged in his heart muscle and it closed around the skewering thing, allowing the heart to continue beating without fatal blood loss. Couldn't confirm this on Snopes, but I remember reading about it many years ago.Comment

Years ago a kid came into our ER impaled on a car radio antenna after falling out of a tree.
It entered just to the left of his anus and came out ~1.5" below his xiphoid (tip of sternum). MANY tests later we determined nothing had been perforated; the tip of the antenna had just pushed his organs & major vessels aside
